Morning, sports fans.

Actually, going by last week’s competition to give away two sets of Plantronics’ .Audio 770s, we’re all headphone fans. Nothing wrong with that, I say.

To win, all you had to do was post a cool comment on any story. Considering the high levels of creativity out there, we had a great response. Which made it hard to pick just two winners.

Yet, we came to a decision. Two decisions – both of which you can read after the jump. More »

If you didn’t see it the first time round, Plantronics has kindly donated two of its .Audio 770 gaming headphones as prizes for Kotaku AU readers. The conditions of the competition, strangely enough, haven’t changed, so keep those comments coming!

If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking about, best to see yesterday’s post where the topic was covered at length.

Win a Set of Plantronics .Audio 770 Gaming Headphones

As mentioned in the past, I’ve always been a bit wary of companies that go out of their way to brand their products with some kind of gaming-orientated moniker.

However, having used the .Audio 770 for a few days, I’ve found them to be quite good. They include a noise-cancelling circuit in the microphone, and the drivers deliver a clear, crisp sound, even if they’re a little light on the bass. Oh, and they’re comfy-as.

After chatting to Plantronics about this quite-goodness, we managed to organise two sets (each worth $129) to give away to Kotaku AU readers.

All you have to do to be in with a chance is to make a comment. That’s right, just comment on any story over the next week, and if we think it’s particularly funny, inspirational or informative, your name will be added to a list of potential finalists.

Thanks to Plantronics for providing the prizes!

Plantronics Launches New PC Gaming Headphones

I’ve always been suspicious of companies with products that go out of their way to market and brand their stuff as “specially designed for gaming”. Anyone who’s ever used a pair of Creative’s Fatal1ty gaming ‘phones (which, I will shamefully admit, includes me) can attest the fact that “gaming” doesn’t necessarily mean “better”. Or even “good”.

I do own a Microsoft Habu mouse that is unreal, though.

Regardless, it was with extreme tentativeness that I headed along to Plantronics’ launch of its new range of .Audio headphone products last night, which included the .Audio 365 and 770 – apparently engineered with us gamers in mind. What this really means is that they come with huge-arse ear muffs, noise-cancelling mics and, for the 770, an open-ear design so when you’re at a LAN, you can still hear people telling you how much you suck behind your back.

We weren’t able to get specific prices last night, but Plantronics’ national retail sales manager Chris Brown did provide a $60-$70 price for the 365s and a $100+ for the 770s. StaticIce seems to agree as far as the latter is concerned, but we couldn’t shake a price out of it for the 365s.

The 770s are pictured above, and you can find a snap of the 365s after the jump. More »
