Yakuza 3 Has Great Looking Graphics, Strippers

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on November 27, 2008

We really don't know how Yakuza series producer Toshihiro Nagoshi finds the time to so thoroughly bronze and get a new Yakuza game out every year or so. Yakuza 3 — the fourth in the series after the spin-off Yakuza Kenzan! — features more stunning character models, Japanese gangster brawls and "exotic dancers" with ultra-realistic stripper boots. This clip for the Japanese version features mere seconds of gameplay, but does make up for it with some camera straddling.

Your Guitar Hero World Tour Drums Now Work In Rock Band 2

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on November 25, 2008

Owners of the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band 2 will be asked to upgrade their copies to version 1.01 today. That hundredth increase in version numbering brings with it a bunch of new bug fixes, the most noteworthy being a corrected "interoperability issue" with Guitar Hero World Tour drum and guitar peripherals. Happy, happy clutter-free days! Even better, if you found yourself somehow on the receiving end of a copy of Konami's Rock Revolution, that game's drum kit will work too. For the full list of changes, read on.

Tomb Raider: Underworld Review: Lara Croft's Uncharted Adventure

Posted by AJ Glasser at 4:30 AM on November 25, 2008

Tomb Raider: Underworld is the eighth game in the Tomb Raider series and the third developed by Crystal Dynamics in almost as many years. True to the original game's roots, Underworld's gameplay is 75 percent platforming and puzzle-solving, 20 percent action and 5 percent cut scene. The old quicktime events where you had to wait for that magic button to pop up before you could order Lara to move out of harm's way have been replaced by "situational adrenaline" moments where everything slows way down and you retain complete control of Lara - so if she dies, it's totally your fault and not the game's for tricking you into pressing the wrong button.

Hit the jump to find out how we weighed in on Tomb Raider: Underworld.

PS3 Trophies Are Now MANDATORY

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 2:30 PM on November 21, 2008

That's right. MANDATORY. Refuse to put trophies in your game and you, developers, will be SHOT. Your families, BILLED for the expense. Or...at least, Sony will be very cranky with you. Because, come January, all new PS3 games must have trophy support. No ifs or buts. So no more patching, no more developer ambivalence, no more inconsistencies. Not sure why Sony didn't do this from the start, but doing it now, at the middle, is better than never doing it at all.

'Volatile' Holiday Market Partly To Blame For LittleBigPlanet Sales

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on November 20, 2008

Early sales on Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet didn't quite set the world on fire. The game moved a solid if unspectacular 215,000 copies in the United States during its debut month of October — just four days, really — and 69,000 units during its first two weeks of availability in Japan. In the UK, it dropped quickly to nineteenth place on sales charts in its second week. Over a quarter million copies in a few days isn't bad, but it might not be the killer app exclusive emotionally invested PlayStation fans or Sony executives were hoping for.
