The Nintendo Wii has just hit 2 million units, and has done so in less time than the the Nintendo DS, making it the fastest console in Australian history to hit that figure.
Whereas the Nintendo DS took 52 months to hit 2 million units sold, the Nintendo Wii took five months less – hitting the same target in 47 months.
Former Sony employee, 58-year-old Hidehiro Kume invented a small optical pickup that is used to read and write discs in the PlayStation 2 and the original PlayStation. He didn’t feel Sony recognised his contributions, so he took him to court.
Popstar Kylie Minogue’s latest music video features a bevy of young, attractive people taking their clothes off and fondling each other. I remember the first time I saw it, back before it was a music video packed with underwear.
And when it was a 2004 Cannes Festival winning PlayStation 2 ad. The ad was written by copywriters Paula Marcantonio and Tony McTea. The creative director for the piece was Trevor Beattie, a big wig from a London ad agency. It was shot in Brazil and features a Shirley Temple song.
Shot in downtown Los Angeles, the Minogue video was helmed by veteran music video director Joseph Kahn. It opens with a QR code emblazoned cup of coffee hitting the pavement. Then a guy takes off his shirt. Then marshmallows hit the ground. Milk is spilled. Deep.
People begin running through the city in the PS2 ad. This person already had his shirt off. It’s hot — not kissy kissy smoochy smoochy time.
In the Minogue video, people begin talking off their clothes. And kissing each other. In the street. Get a room!
And in the PS2 ad, crowds begin piling on what looks like is a bus.
Crowds begin piling on each other. Then Kylie Minogue appears out of the crowd. Either doves or pigeons fly out from where she came. I forget.
In the original PS2 ad, a human pyramid has been formed!
More groping and kissing. Then a BMW appears as people make out in the street and balloons fly out of the car. I am not joking.
Folks claw their way to the top, including a fat kid in his bathing suit. He is then toppled by another person.
And this guy makes it to the top.
Meanwhile in the Kylie video, a white horse makes its way through the street. And there are choreographic waving gestures and the Kylie human pyramid gets bigger.
The PS2 ad ends with a wide shot of the mound of people.
The Kylie video ends with her releasing a dove (a pigeon?). But before that there is a wide shot of the human pyramid. Then end! Music video “borrow” stuff all the time, so this isn’t surprising.
Check out the original PS2 ad here and the Kylie video here.
Thanks for the tip, Adam!
To Heart is a landmark in Japanese adult PC gaming. Released in 1997, the game is a visual novel and showed how adult themes could be woven into a moving story. It influenced a generation of visual novels.
Fortunately, you can determine that for yourself. Not by judging the cover of the novelisation of the PlayStation video game, but by reading the first chapter of the God of War book, now online and freely available to read.
It’s rare that Sony makes announcements about new PlayStation 2 games, but not too surprising when that game is Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, the latest PSP game to come to the company’s last-generation console.
