Prince Of Persia: Balancing Open World With Story

Posted by Mike Fahey at 7:30 PM on November 21, 2008

Prince of Persia producer Ben Mattes, narrative designer Andrew Walsh, and level designer Michael McIntyre discuss the challenges of balancing a rich, immersive story with the open-world nature of the new game. Past PoP games have been strictly linear affairs, making it much easier to know how long the characters have been together, what they've already accomplished, etc. I think their solution is rather interesting, but of course I'll have to see it in practice.

Waiter, There's An Altair In My Prince Of Persia

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 1:30 PM on November 21, 2008

Ubisoft today took the wraps off two alternate player skins you can use when playing the new Prince of Persia. One is Altair, of Assassin's Creed fame, making his second guest appearance for the year, albeit this time in a setting that's a little more appropriate. The second is the Prince from Sands of Time. To get Altair, all you need to do is register on Ubisoft's site, and you'll get him for free. For the Sands of Time Prince, you need to preorder the game from GameStop. For a secret, Kotaku-exclusive third skin, click through...

Ubisoft Plans 'Significant' Prince Of Persia DLC

Posted by Stuart Houghton at 8:20 AM on November 18, 2008

You can tell when expectations of a game are running high when people start murmuring about DLC expansions before the thing is even on the shelves. Incidentally, how's that episodic GTA thing working out, Rockstar?

Prince of Persia Preview Soiree - Jade Raymond Conquers Dance Floor

Posted by AJ Glasser at 8:00 AM on November 15, 2008

Man, Ubisoft knows how to party. For their Prince of Persia preview event, they booked the Ana Mandara lounge at Ghiradelli Square, hired an acrobat troupe and henna tattoo artists, and crammed half a dozen hookah pipes onto the balcony section. There was also an open bar, a spread of Middle Eastern-themed food, and a monster sound system. (Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond led the charge onto the dance floor).

Japanese Prince Of Persia Art Book Is Sketchy

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 11:20 PM on November 10, 2008

People preordering Prince of Persia were promised a treat. They were promised a strategy guide, an artbook and a CD. Promised, but never shown, as it's only now that we get our first look at the collector's edition pack-in. Or, the Japanese edition at any rate. Use your imagination, pretend the whole thing's in English, as odds are this is exactly what we're getting. It appears, based on the packaging, that the CD and artbook are rolled into one, so don't go expecting a large, hardcover coffee table book for your preordering troubles. Still, for what it is, it looks nice enough.

Prince Of Persia, Inspired By Jordan Mechner's Kid Brother

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 10:00 PM on October 28, 2008

Wish there was a word more awesome than awesome. Because this would be that. Above is the original animation reference footage for the original Price of Persia. From 1985. That's PoP creator Jordan Mechner's little brother, running around in baggy pants. Mechner took this footage, tracked his bro's movements then based the Prince's animation on them. The likeness manages to be both amazing, creepy and amazing all at the same time.

Prince Of Persia Jumps To PlayStation Store This Thursday

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 3:20 PM on October 21, 2008

PlayStation 3 owners will get a taste of old school Persian platforming when Prince of Persia Classic lands on the North American PlayStation Store this Thursday, October 23rd. It's seeing release to, we presume, hype us for the totally new, not-at-all-classic Prince of Persia, reimagined for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but confusingly named plain old Prince of Persia.
