It’s funnier when you realise, three seconds in, that anyone who’s ever played the original Prince of Persia has done just this. Only maybe not to such catchy music.
According to the ESRB’s website, the Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD collections due for the PlayStation 3 will also be making an appearance on the Xbox 360.
The Prince of Persia movie, which was great by virtue of not sucking, could have been a little better had the production team stuck to the original script handed in by the game’s original creator, Jordan Mechner.
Gamasutra (via French site JeuxVideo) is reporting that both Ubisoft and Warner Bros. intend to re-release trilogies of some of their more popular PS2 games on the PS3, with HD (and perhaps 3D) makeovers. Named franchises include Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Rayman, and Mortal Kombat – and retail listings of the packs have been spotted.
The Prince of Persia franchise may have dodged a bullet this generation, saving fans from the discomfort of seeing the series thrust into the modern age, an idea that was ultimately scrapped for a PoP reboot of a different nature.
