1 vs 100 Season 2 Premieres Next Week

1 vs 100, the Xbox 360’s massively multiplayer online game show, makes its triumphant return next week, with new questions, more prizes and all the Chris Cashman you can stand.

More than a half a million unique contestants competed in the 15-week beta season of 1 vs 100, and Microsoft wants even more to show up for round two. The second season of the game show kicks off on November 19 at 5pm Pacific Time (12 noon AEDT), with 1 vs 100 Extended Play. Extended Play features new themed trivia every week night, giving players a chance to capitalise on their strengths, giving them a better chance at being chosen as one of The Mob or perhaps even The One himself.

Nearly two million Microsoft points were given away as prizes during the first season, so you might want to keep an eye on the schedule this time around. Even if you aren’t a big fan of trivia, you could win enough points to buy a game you really want to play. No pain, no gain?

It’s your last chance to try desperately to make your voice heard in the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards. The world’s longest-running video game awards have once again broken their voting record, with nearly 800,000 votes submitted so far. I sincerely doubt they’ll be able to break their target of 1 million before voting ends on the 27th of December, but by gum they’re pulling out all the stops trying, offering up prizes for every 10,000th vote submitted.

20/10/08 – Gamers now have less than a week to make a difference in gaming’s most prestigious awards, the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards – together with Virgin Media.

With voting closing at midday on Monday 27th October – the event has already broken its voting record, smashing last year’s total and almost breaking 800,000 nominations with a week to go. More gamers than ever before have voted in this year’s awards, which are for the first-time, a headline event at the London Games Festival (www.londongamesfestival.co.uk) – a week long cultural celebration of gaming, from Friday 24th October.

Organised by Future – the Golden Joystick Awards were first hosted back in 1982, and are the world’s longest-established gaming awards. Celebrating the last 12 months of the games industry, winning a prestigious Golden Joystick is considered by games developers as the ultimate accolade, having been voted for by gamers themselves.

Fable II Site Launches, Fabulous Prizes Await

Microsoft and Lionhead have launched the official Xbox site for Fable II, and much like the site for the original Fable it contains a charming interactive storybook for fans of the series to play through, only this time there are prizes involved! The cutout story tells the tale of your character’s ancestor as he deals with the death of his parents and his search for love and vengeance. Depending on the choices you make as you play through it, you will be awarded one of five special in-game items for your troubles.

Playing through it while sticking to the more virtuous decisions netted me a three-piece chicken costume. Playing through again on evil got me a nasty expression book and a vial of pink dye. Hit the link and let us know what prizes you come up with. Together we’ll collect the whole set!

1st Annual Game Makin’ Shindig Announces Winners, Existence

Gaming site Eegra has announced the winners of its first “game makin’ shindig“, defying claims that one can only have game makin’ shebangs. There are nine titles in all, each with two reviews, and they’re free to download if you’d like to have a play.

The competition is of particular relevance as Conor O’Kane, an Australian, took out first prize and bagged $US 2000 with his bizarre-looking Go Beryllium.

All I can say is, I wish I’d known about the comp! I’d have submitted Wizkill, Zafehouse or Blockshooter. Oh, if you’re wondering why there’s been a lack of Game A Weeks, I had to take a bit of a break while I direct my arse off.

Wii Championships In Melbourne This Weekend

Do you have mad Wii Sports skills? A Wii remote bowling arm that rivals those of real world professionals? Does the idea of winning things excite you?

If you said “yes” or nodded your head with restrained enthusiasm at any of these questions, you should check out the Wii Championships in Melbourne’s Federation Square. Activities will run between 10AM and 5PM on July 5 & 6, with daily champions receiving a Wii and five games. 500 Wii backpacks are also available for keen entrants.

As an aside, the ACMI’s Game On exhibition ends on July 13, so if you do head down, be sure to check this out while you have the chance.

Get down to the Wii Championships this weekend – Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July – at Federation Square Melbourne to put your Wii Sports skills to the test and win great Nintendo prizes!

You’ll also have the chance to compete in Wii Sports tennis and Wii Sports bowling against Channel Nine personalities Kelly Landry (Getaway), Shura Taft and Georgia Sinclair (KidsWB).
