More than a half a million unique contestants competed in the 15-week beta season of 1 vs 100, and Microsoft wants even more to show up for round two. The second season of the game show kicks off on November 19 at 5pm Pacific Time (12 noon AEDT), with 1 vs 100 Extended Play. Extended Play features new themed trivia every week night, giving players a chance to capitalise on their strengths, giving them a better chance at being chosen as one of The Mob or perhaps even The One himself.

Nearly two million Microsoft points were given away as prizes during the first season, so you might want to keep an eye on the schedule this time around. Even if you aren’t a big fan of trivia, you could win enough points to buy a game you really want to play. No pain, no gain?

Kotaku AU note: Meanwhile, we’re still waiting on a local launch.

It’s your last chance to try desperately to make your voice heard in the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards. The world’s longest-running video game awards have once again broken their voting record, with nearly 800,000 votes submitted so far. I sincerely doubt they’ll be able to break their target of 1 million before voting ends on the 27th of December, but by gum they’re pulling out all the stops trying, offering up prizes for every 10,000th vote submitted.

To make your voice briefly heard and get a chance at winning Nokia phones, games, or magazine subscriptions (yay), head over to www.goldenjoystick.com before the 27th. Then watch the show live on the website on October 31st to see what difference if any your opinion made.

Last chance to vote in the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards

Have you say and make a difference in this record breaking year!

20/10/08 – Gamers now have less than a week to make a difference in gaming’s most prestigious awards, the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards – together with Virgin Media.

With voting closing at midday on Monday 27th October – the event has already broken its voting record, smashing last year’s total and almost breaking 800,000 nominations with a week to go. More gamers than ever before have voted in this year’s awards, which are for the first-time, a headline event at the London Games Festival (www.londongamesfestival.co.uk) – a week long cultural celebration of gaming, from Friday 24th October.

Organised by Future – the Golden Joystick Awards were first hosted back in 1982, and are the world’s longest-established gaming awards. Celebrating the last 12 months of the games industry, winning a prestigious Golden Joystick is considered by games developers as the ultimate accolade, having been voted for by gamers themselves.

Voting is still wide open in many of the 17 gamer voted categories, with the top spots changing regularly throughout the day as votes are cast. If there’s a game you feel deserves a Golden Joystick – get over to www.goldenjoystick.com and vote now!

26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards – together with Virgin Media
• Virgin Media Ultimate Game of the Year
• The Sun Family Game of the Year
• Nuts All Nighter Award
• BBC 1Xtra Soundtrack of the Year
• Bliss Handheld Game of the Year
• Play.com The One To Watch Award
• 4Talent Mobile Game of the Year
• Nintendo Game of the Year
• Online Game of the Year
• PC Game of the Year
• PlayStation Game of the Year
• Xbox Game of the Year
• Publisher of the Year
• Activision Blizzard Retailer of the Year
• UK Developer of the Year
• Edge Most Wanted Award
• E4 Grand Master Flash Award

All voters have a chance to scoop a fantastic prize, with organisers dishing out exclusive prizes like Nokia N96 mobile phones, games and magazine subscriptions for every 10,000th vote.

TV’s Frankie Boyle presents the Golden Joystick Awards live from 1.30pm GMT on Friday, 31st October and you can see the show online at www.goldenjoystick.com or www.virginmedia.com.

Microsoft and Lionhead have launched the official Xbox site for Fable II, and much like the site for the original Fable it contains a charming interactive storybook for fans of the series to play through, only this time there are prizes involved! The cutout story tells the tale of your character’s ancestor as he deals with the death of his parents and his search for love and vengeance. Depending on the choices you make as you play through it, you will be awarded one of five special in-game items for your troubles.

Playing through it while sticking to the more virtuous decisions netted me a three-piece chicken costume. Playing through again on evil got me a nasty expression book and a vial of pink dye. Hit the link and let us know what prizes you come up with. Together we’ll collect the whole set!

Fable II Storybook Game [Xbox.com - Thanks Jose!]

Of course, we can’t just pick five readers to hand the game to – no, we need some competition. Some fierce competition. To this end, we’re asking you to post a comment to this story. In it, you need to propose a name and sub-title for the sequel to Too Human. For instance:

Too Human 2: Even More Human

Do this, and you’re in with a chance. It’s simple, see!

Be sure to include your email address in the provided field when you comment so we can contact you if you win. And yes, you can enter as many times as you like, but you’re only eligible for a single copy. Also note this competition is open to residents of Australia and NZ only. Winners will be announced this time next week.

Now, let me hear your ideas! Note that any comments that are not competition entries will be deleted to prevent confusion.

There are nine titles in all, each with two reviews, and they’re free to download if you’d like to have a play.

The competition is of particular relevance as Conor O’Kane, an Australian, took out first prize and bagged $US 2000 with his bizarre-looking Go Beryllium.

Oh, if you’re wondering why there’s been a lack of Game A Weeks, I had to take a bit of a break while I direct my arse off.

Press release after the jump.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (July 29, 2008) – Eegra.com, self-proclaimed industry leader in hilarity and radness, announces THE WINNERS of ‘The Shindig’!

Eegra launched the ‘Ist Annual Game Makin’ Shindig’ in April 2008.

The Shindig is an independent game creation extravaganza in which talented developers win FABULOUS CASH PRIZES (scraped together from our own shallow indie pockets) simply by sharing their work with the world.

There are 9 sensational entries in the 2008 Shindig. All are available for download NOW (and some will continue to be updated) PLUS there’s a massive round-up feature covering all the games.

Congratulations to all of our game-makers!

Take a look at www.eegra.com

See you at the 2nd Annual Eegra Game Makin’ Shindig!

Above is baconfrenzy’s entry; Ben writes, “The attached file is muh entry, no laughs… well, maybe a chuckle”. Here’s what’s going on: Wimbledon is wrapping up, and the US Open is still a few months away, but Top Spin 3 and Kotaku are bringing you the Kotaku Open. We’re going to make this simple for you. Don’t bother practicing your twist serve or calling up your doubles partner. All you need to do is get yourself in some tennis attire! We don’t particularly care how you do it either: Steal your dad’s tennis shorts from ‘72, Photoshop your head onto Federer’s body, or maybe, just maybe you’re a tennis superstar with a closet full of visors and wristbands. Send in your pictures to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom, readers will vote for their favourite, and the winner gets a free copy of Top Spin 3 (platform of your choice!), courtesy of 2K Sports. Match point!

By Kotaku Time, it’s officially July 4th. So, happy July 4th! And to celebrate, we’re giving away a copy of Civilization Revolution in a very, very easy contest. Use each of the letters that appear in the title Civilization Revolution to spell out countries names. So, for example, “Canada”, “Ireland”, “Vietnam”… None of the countries can repeat — well, save for “OMAN.” So put that in an email and and send it to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom. The two hundredth and thirty-second email we get, wins a copy of the game. Winner will be announced over the weekend. Good luck!
