Pro Evo Patched Again (Who still has an anlog TV?)
1:00AM Brian Ashcraft | Have an analog TV? Konami cares. No, really. The company is putting out yet anoter patch for Pro Evo 2008. Apparently, the game was shuttering when hooked up to a CRT tube. The new patch, which installs automatically when you log into PSN, will hopefully fix those issues. Too bad there’s not patch to turn those TVs into high def televisions. Quick head count, who’s got an old school telly? I know MTV’s Stephen Totilo does. That man is kurazy!! Pro Evo Patched [CVG] [Pic] More »
OK, OK, Pro Evo On Wii Is Coming, It’s Coming
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Pro Evo on almost every other system’s been out for a few months now. Sadly for Wii owners, their new-fandangled version’s been delayed, no doubt while Konami tinker with its make-or-break Wii Remote control system. No more! It’s been confirmed the game’s due in March, and will be bringing full Mii support (ie make a whole team of them) as well as an, *ahem*, robust online mode. Scottish Government Fighting Drunk Driving With Xbox 360
5:30AM Mark Wilson | The Scottish Government is worried about youth adult drunk driving. During their most recent drunk driving initiative, police caught 150 people under the age of 25 (granted, there are roughly 5 million people in Scotland, but the BBC feels the stat is important, so we’re letting you know). Now Scotland is putting £10,000, or almost $US 20,000, behind in-game sober driving ads. They’ll be popping up within online-enabled games Need for Speed: Carbon, Project Gotham Racing 4 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson had this to say about this new campaign: It is innovative, it is new, and it is far removed from the more traditional methods we have been using. I believe that is what we need if we are to reverse the number of Scots families suffering the tragedy of a loved one being lost. It’s good to see bureaucracy tweaking their gameplan with the times. Hopefully Scotland finds their money well-spent. Xbox games tackle drink driving [bbc] More »Pro Evolution Made Unsettling
12:00AM Brian Ashcraft | ?????????????????Uploaded by Kanakmae Holy cow this is freakazoid! And man, my freakazoid tolerance is really high. Someone skinned nerd characters into Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer, complete with gianormous eyes. Those characters include the girls from Lucky Star, L from Death Note, Haruhi Suzumiya and Yoda among others. The video is kinda slow starting off, but stick around for the truly bizarre stuff. Pro Evo 2008 Gets Patched
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | And not a moment too soon. The PS3 version of the game is an awful port, with atrocious framerate issues, but the 360 version has its problems too, particularly with slowdown during replays and set pieces. And that’s not mentioning the busted online play both versions have suffered through. Well, Pro Evo fanatics, a fix might be at hand. Konami have patched the game on both systems, promising improved framerates and a reduction in lag during online play. They also reckon it fixes a problem the PS3 version had when trying to install it on your HDD. All sounds good, but a quick glance at a few major PES fan forums shows the patch seems to have had little effect on the game’s online problems, so don’t get too excited. [Konami Europe] More »
PS3 Pro Evo Busted, Konami Offering Advice
8:45PM Luke Plunkett | I’ve played Pro Evo 2008 on both 360 and PS3. On 360? Sports game of the year. It’s seven-and-a-half shades of fantastic. On PS3? Argh. Ungh. Argh! Awful. The game locks up. The framerate at times crawls into single-digits. Online play is busted. In short, it’s a piece of crap. Konami surely knew this before it shipped, and are now being forced to address it after it’s shipped, pledging that all hands are on deck working on a patch. Until then? They’re offering some extremely useful advice to PS3 owners suffering from poor framerates. Konami Digital Entertainment is aware that some players of PES2008 are experiencing “stuttering” by their machine when playing on PS3. (This does not occur on other formats). After checking the matter we have found that the problem is primarily taking place where the user is not playing the game in high definition. The solution to this problem is to play the game on an HD TV (high definition screen). Easy. Problem solved. Just go buy a new TV. Thanks Konami! PES 2008 FAQ – All systems [Konami] More »
PES 2008 Hits North American Xbox Live
1:20AM Mike Fahey | Well this is going to confuse more than a few Americans who don’t quite get the whole football VS football thing. The PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) 2008 demo is up now on the North American branch of Xbox Live Marketplace, and it is listed as “A stunningly real, breathtakingly beautiful football game!” Even with the tiny pack shot proclaiming it as soccer for the football impaired, I’m sure more than a few casual Xbox Live users will download this demo only to be confused by the fact that the team is made up entirely of kickers with nary a wide receiver in sight. I am downloading the 1.18GB demo as we speak, hoping that this will be the footie game that finally gets the sport to click with my brain. More »
Pro Evo Wii Definitely Not For The Casual Gamer
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | That footage of Pro Evo 2008’s Wii control scheme was a little worrying. Looked a little kuh-raaaaaa-zy. Complicated, even. Turns out that’s the whole point, with game producer Akiyoshi Chosogabe saying: In the beginning I wondered if we would have to create a casual game, because the Wii is a more of a casual player’s machine. But I thought it would be boring if we create it as a more casual game. Therefore in the beginning I abandoned any plans to make this a more casual version and started to look for a brand new direction. That “new direction” is the Wii’s arrow-laden control and display system. Which you’re going to have to get used to, by the way, with no Classic Controller support planned for the game. 6:00PM Luke Plunkett | We brought you the first screens a little while back, so here, only fair you get some video to go with ‘em. I don’t know where they get the “intuitive controls” bit from, though. The whole thing looks like a complete dog’s breakfast. Messy! More »
