Project Gotham Racing 4 Reduced To $US 70 Peripheral Bundle

6:30PM Luke Plunkett | Poor PGR4. I think it’s easily this generation’s best driving game, but it was dropped onto the market and left to die by Microsoft, and then ignored by pundits during the Christmas 07 rush. So sad. It deserved better! Much better than the fate that awaits it this Christmas, with reports coming out of the GameStop Expo indicating the game will be crammed in a box with 12 months of Xbox Live and the 360 chatpad and stuffed in stockings for $US 70. Which, actually…OK, that’s a good deal. Especially if – and shame on you – you missed the game first time around. Plenty Of Rumours To Go Around At GameStop Expo [1UP] More »

Goodbye, Project Gotham Racing 4, You Will Be Missed

7:30PM Luke Plunkett | I’m going to level with you: Project Gotham Racing 4 is my favourite racing game of all time. Hands down. Yes, other games feature more content, and yes, other games are more “realistic”, but you know, I don’t care. They can’t match it for visual flair, they can’t match it for sound design, and they definitely can’t match the total package of making me feel like I’m strapped inside a ridiculously expensive sports car. So it’s with tears welling in the corner of my eyes that I read Bizarre have said there’s no more content on the way for the game, at least from them (and, really, nobody else will bother). So it’s done. That’s it. Not surprising, when you consider Bizarre are now paid by Activision, but still. It’s final, and as such, it’s saddening. Because it’s the final nail in the coffin of a game that lived too fast and died too young. Bizarre finished with PGR4 content [CVG] More »

PGR4 DLC Arrives On Valentine’s Day

4:40AM Mark Wilson | “Looking at the room, I can tell that you. Are the most beautiful girl in the…room. (In the whole wide room). And when you’re on the street, depending on the street. I bet you are definitely in the top 3. Good lookin girls on the street. (Depending on the streets).” More »

Scottish Government Fighting Drunk Driving With Xbox 360

5:30AM Mark Wilson | The Scottish Government is worried about youth adult drunk driving. During their most recent drunk driving initiative, police caught 150 people under the age of 25 (granted, there are roughly 5 million people in Scotland, but the BBC feels the stat is important, so we’re letting you know). Now Scotland is putting £10,000, or almost $US 20,000, behind in-game sober driving ads. They’ll be popping up within online-enabled games Need for Speed: Carbon, Project Gotham Racing 4 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson had this to say about this new campaign: It is innovative, it is new, and it is far removed from the more traditional methods we have been using. I believe that is what we need if we are to reverse the number of Scots families suffering the tragedy of a loved one being lost. It’s good to see bureaucracy tweaking their gameplan with the times. Hopefully Scotland finds their money well-spent. Xbox games tackle drink driving [bbc] More »

What’s In PGR4’s Title Update?

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | PGR4 is getting a title update tomorrow. What’s inside? Oh, just four new multiplayer tournaments. Daily Tournaments run between Monday and Friday, and are open to the fastest 640 players. Super Saturdays run on…Saturdays, and are open to the fastest 2560 qualifiers. Simulation Sundays run on Shabbas, and are a little tougher (day of rest my ass): you can only use the in-car view, and you can only drive manual. Only 64 players can qualify for these. Finally, the Global Cup will be run twice a month, each run taking two weeks to complete. Fastest 512 qualify for this, with the winners having their gamertags displayed on PGRNations. And that’s it. No cash or prizes, you’re going to have to make do with the sweet taste of victory and/or the salty taste of your opponents tears. [Gamerscore Press Release] More »

PGR4 Impressions

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | I like driving games. Love ‘em! Can’t get enough of them. But as I’ve played more and more over the years, I’ve grown to develop a keen sense of what it is, exactly, I like about them. I like fun. I dig the sensation that I’m driving really really fast in a really really expensive car, and having to drive like a maniac to beat a bunch of other maniacs driving fast, expensive cars. Lucky for me, you, Bizarre and Microsoft, then, that’s exactly what PGR4 delivers. It’s fun. Buckets full of bucketloads of fun. The core driving mechanics seem to be the same as PGR3, but just about everything else has been tweaked, improved or added to improve on the predecessor. Tracks are better, opponents more interesting, progression has been overhauled, the graphics are slicker, bikes add a whole new dimension to the game… see? Everything’s been changed, and it’s been changed for the better. More »

Formula Racer Gets Skid Luck Message

2:00AM Brian Crecente | Russ Swift, UK’s top stunt driver, was hired by Microsoft to burn a good luck message with skid marks onto the parking lot of Battersea Power Station for Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton. Swift created the Project Gotham Racing 4 stunt with a sports car, a motorcycle and three sets of tires. The end result: a 50-foot Go Lewis, meant to cheer Hamilton on for this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix. Hit the jump for the full press release and unfortunate Freudian Slip. More »

Project Gotham Racing 4 Runs Down Retailers

2:12PM Logan Booker | If you can get past the extraordinarily bad pun in the headline, Microsoft has sent word that PGR4 – bless its racing stripes – is now out and about for the Xbox 360. With some 120 vehicles, including motorcycles from BMW and Honda, there’s plenty to keep you busy, especially when you throw in the multiplayer potential. Just fork over the $99.95 asking price and Bizarre Creations’ racer can be yours. Oh, you’ll need to wash, dress and leave the house, too. Project Gotham Racing 4 [Official AU site] More »

PGR4 and FEAR Files Demos Hit Live

10:51AM Michael McWhertor | Xbox 360 owners are swimming in demos this week. Following up on yesterday’s release of The Simpsons Game and Conan demos, the Marketplace welcomes two newcomers, Project Gotham Racing 4 and F.E.A.R. Files: Extraction Point, the latter of which I really enjoy typing. PGR4 is fortunately available worldwide and weighs in at 1.27GB, so clean your internet pipes for maximum downloadiness. The demo features three cars, two bikes, and two tracks. That’s value. The other demo, which I simply cannot be bothered to type out again, comes in at a more trim 584.87MB, but thumbs its figurative nose at anyone not in Canada and the U.S. Sorry, rest of the world. You’re going to have to settle for PGR4. More »
