Xbox 360 owners are swimming in demos this week. Following up on yesterday’s release of The Simpsons Game and Conan demos, the Marketplace welcomes two newcomers, Project Gotham Racing 4 and F.E.A.R. Files: Extraction Point, the latter of which I really enjoy typing. PGR4 is fortunately available worldwide and weighs in at 1.27GB, so clean your internet pipes for maximum downloadiness. The demo features three cars, two bikes, and two tracks. That’s value.
The other demo, which I simply cannot be bothered to type out again, comes in at a more trim 584.87MB, but thumbs its figurative nose at anyone not in Canada and the U.S. Sorry, rest of the world. You’re going to have to settle for PGR4.
PGR4 is a lot like PGR2. As in, you won’t notice the difference from the predecessor at first glance, but spend some time with it and the little things, the things that make all the difference when you have to do them a million billion times, add up. Nothing feels new, but everything feels tweaked. Graphics are also looking a little tarted up, though sadly the course I was thrown onto was blessed with a lovely summer’s day, so no, I didn’t get to see the new weather effects.
PGR4 isn’t even out yet, and already, Bizarre are thinking about PGR5. Where they’ve gone “wrong” with the current version, what they want to add to the next one, that kind of thing. Lead designer Ged Talbert: Obviously Gotham 4′s about to come out and we’re really happy with it, but behind the scenes we’ve already started ripping our game to pieces. We know where we failed in certain areas; for instance we wanted more trackside damage, more particles and smoke effects, a bigger damage system – and all of these things are being stripped out in a post-mortem.
Other things they want to add next time are add off-road tracks and vehicles like quad-bikes. I’m down with quad-bikes. Bizarre: Deserts, ATVs for PGR 5 [CVG]
Despite E3 rumours that Project Gotham Racing 4 would see delays, the game has gone gold and will hit store shelves on October 2nd. And hopefully beyond the potential bonus of Bizarre Creations freeing up more resources for The Club, they’ll find it in their hearts to make another Fur Fighters. Because let’s admit it, even though cars are kind of a big deal, there’s more money made in cute kitten posters alone than all of Ford and GM profits combined last year.
The truth is a cold, kittenless void, isn’t it?
Well, maybe not eat. More like….lick. Lick the individual beads of water off the fast car’s bonnet as it purrs on the starting line like a big cat. Or something. Point is, it looks real nice.
No holiday here in Australia. It’s business as usual. Usual business being receiving release dates for games that are slightly modified than those you’d expect elsewhere. Today, we got word that two of Microsoft’s big first-party releases for the year have got themselves antipodean dates: Project Gotham Racing 4 can be expected on October 11 (9 days later than the US), while Mass Effect is due on November 22 (2 days later than the US). Nine and Two days? Not too bad!
See that? Look closer. That’s an Xbox 360 in the dashboard. You’re looking at the winner of the Peugot International design competition winner. The Flux concept design, created by Romanian student Mihai Panitescu, was picked from over 4,000 entries. will get a full scale model at September’s Frankfurt Auto as well as inclusion in Project Gotham Racing 4. Says Martyn Chudley from developer Bizarre Creations: We were impressed with the innovative and the extreme car designs submitted; We hope that Mihai Panaitescu will be excited when he sees The Flux faithfully created on the Xbox 360.
Imagine how Mihai will feel when he sees the Xbox 360… Ah, forget it. Neat design and congrats! More Pics [Jalopnik]
Microsoft just sent word that Project Gotham Racing 4 is nearly done, and will be released in the US on October 2 and in Europe on October 14. It’ll go for $US60. Not content with just this vital information, they also sent along a list of ten more cars that will feature in the game, as well as nine more bikes. Which normally wouldn’t excite me, but I’ve got a thing for Aston Martins, so the 2005 Vantage V8′s inclusion is good news. Rest of the new additions are only a click away.
