Because Sony’s trophy system is only being implemented now, a bunch of games have already been released that don’t make use of the feature. Meaning developers will need to go back and bolt on trophy support in their own time. So when 2.40 becomes available, which games will have them, and which ones won’t? While Sony released a preliminary list of titles that will be the first to implement trophies the other day, they’ve since added one more: our 2007 NQGOTY, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which “will also receive a patch at some point in the foreseeable future”.
Sony’s Eric Lempel Talks PS3 Version 2.4 [GameSpy]
You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you? The folks over at PS3 Fanboy are reporting that older PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Network games patched for support of the new trophy system, which goes live with firmware 2.40 this Wednesday, will not award trophies retroactively. The system will not scan older saves and award you trophies based on your progress. This means that you will essentially have to go back through and play the game all over again in order to earn your much-deserved Sony achievement points.
And the 2.40 good times just keep on coming. Everyone’s favourite 2.40 video spokesman, Eric Lempel, now brings you the skinny on just how the PS3′s achievement trophy system will work. Enjoy.
The 2.40 firmware is bringing in-game XMB and trophies. The first games getting trophy support include BUZZ! Quiz TV, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, NBA 09, PAIN, PixelJunk Eden, Resistance 2, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation and Warhawk. Some of those games (like PAIN and Warhawk) require a game update for trophies. More info is detailed in the presser. That, after the jump!
