And now that the PSP 3000 has gone on sale, more comparison pics have emerged again showing that, you guessed it, the new PSP 3000 appears brighter than the previous model. There's a gallery below. But be warned, the PSP 3000 is so bright you might wanna wear shades.
The video gaming industry was devastated to learn recently that the recently announced PSP 3000, with its new, brighter screen, built-in microphone and fancy new PS button, may lead to shorter battery life. GameSpot reported recently, based on a conversation with SCEA's John Koller, that higher consumption may reduce battery life by "about 20 minutes". Just soul crushing...
As we know from Blade Runner the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long — and the PSP 3000's new screen burns so very, very bright.
Sony Computer Entertainment America has released further information on the new model of the PSP, officially known as the PSP 3000, including when you'll be able to get it stateside. The PSP 3000 model will be available in North America this October, shipping with the previously announced Ratchet & Clank Size Matters entertainment pack, the same one announced at E3 2008.
SCEA officially describes the PSP 3000's new LCD screen as having "a wider colour gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colours, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors".
As rumoured, the PSP 3000 also ships with a smaller metal ring on the back. Picture proof after the jump.
Additional "spy" photos of the alleged PSP-3000 hardware update that we posted last night have come to our attention, again courtesy of the PSPChina.net message board. These shots show off what appears to be a working prototype of the PlayStation Portable, said to have built-in microphone support, among other alleged new functionality.
