Showing continued support for the older model despite the impending release of the PSP Go, Sony has announced two new colours for the PSP-3000: Blossom Pink and Turquoise Green. Behold their beauty.
PSPgo, the newest addition to the PlayStation family, will carry a premium price of $US249 USD when it launches this October. That’s $US80 more than the PSP-3000, a figure considered too high by gamers and at least one analyst.
Some of you wrote to us this weekend wondering why the hell Amazon (or the online retailer of your choosing) cancelled your PSP-3000 pre-order. Well, if you were one of the dozens, if not hundreds, who opted for the 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack — which featured a PSP 3000 and 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo — Sony cancelling the release of said Entertainment Pack is the reason why. No, they’re not abandoning the thing entirely to fix that little screen issue.
Back in August, comparison pics emerged showing that the new PSP 3000 appears brighter than the previous model. And now that the PSP 3000 has gone on sale, more comparison pics have emerged again showing that, you guessed it, the new PSP 3000 appears brighter than the previous model. There’s a gallery below. But be warned, the PSP 3000 is so bright you might wanna wear shades.

Today the new PSP-3000 went on sale in Japan. Website PC Watch got its hands on one and instead of using it to play video games (been there, done that), it ripped it up into iddy-biddy pieces (neato). When Sony announced the PSP-3000 in Japan, they also announced three bundle deals. One of those was for a Gundam bundle, which would cost ¥24,840 ($230), and feature Gundam vs Gundam and a limited edition Gundam PSP. Anyway, here’s the PSP! Hardcore fans and those standing right next to the unit will see that those darker bits are a bunch of giant robots. Everyone else, though? They’ll think you’re a clutz, can’t stop dropping the thing, have scratched the crap out of the paintjob.

The video gaming industry was devastated to learn recently that the recently announced PSP 3000, with its new, brighter screen, built-in microphone and fancy new PS button, may lead to shorter battery life. GameSpot reported recently, based on a conversation with SCEA’s John Koller, that higher consumption may reduce battery life by “about 20 minutes”. Just soul crushing…
Well, we’ve seen how the new PSP (PSP-3000) stacks up against the old PSP-2000 — we’ve even gotten to read about it in English. But for those who like to look at pictures, we’ve got more pictures. Lots more. Pictures that do a nice job of showing how different the PSP-3000 display is. Right up there, is the PSP-2000 and the PSP-300. Can you spot which is which? And what are the cosemtic differences?
After the jump, the PSP’s backsides.
As we know from Blade Runner the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long — and the PSP 3000′s new screen burns so very, very bright.
Got your internet filing cabinet handy? File this between “dubious” and “unexpected”. Maxconsole say that – according to a “Best Buy insider” – the new PSP-3000 model won’t just feature a brighter screen and cleaner edges, it’ll apparently let you plug in your DualShock 3 pad and use it to play games. It’ll also allow the outputting of video to a TV via 480i, instead of the currently-mandated 480p. The DS3 thing, it sounds both sketchy and useless (unless more developers start taking remote play a lot more seriously), but the 480i thing might be good news if you’re some kind of…uh…a…travelling salesman (?), dependant on your PSP for entertainment (??), and often find yourself in cheap hotels with old, crummy, composite-only TV sets.
