Japan Buys Over 300,000 PSP Slims In Three Days

And finally, the PSP shows signs of life! At least in Japan. And in direct contrast to our own, highly scientific findings. Enterbrain have announced that the PSP-2000 has sold 250,702 units in its first three days on the market. Impressive, but more so when you consider that counts only the standalone units: another 75,943 Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core bundles were also shifted (earlier in the week, I know, but they also sold out in about three seconds so they get counted), giving us a total of 326,645. If you don’t think there’s money to be made in new colours and the 176th Final Fantasy game of 2007, you’re kidding yourself. æ–°åž‹PSPの初週販売台数は25万台(エンターブレイン調べ) [Famitsu]

Have TGS Attendees Purchased The New PSP?

newVideoPlayer("PSPoll_gawker_001.flv", 475, 376); Since the PSP Slim hit Japan a few days ago (September 20th), we thought we’d poll the hardcore gamers sweating their way through TGS as to whether or not they’d made the plunge. And while our poll is hardly scientific (Ash had to write the question on a piece of paper for us), our conclusion is that Japanese women love Luke’s powerful beard.

Australia, You May Now Purchase A PSP Slim

Look at that calendar there on your (awfully untidy) desk. Know what today is? It’s September 13. Yes, Australia, that means the PSP Slim is now in the retail channel, ready for you to purchase for the recommended retail price of $279.95. Or not. It’s up to you, really. It’s slim, it’s lite, it still runs out of charge too quickly and it’s still a devil to keep clean. On the bright side it plays all the old PSP games, is thinner, lighter and…newer.

Korea Gives Masterclass In PSP Slim Advertising

Classy! Here is a print ad for the new slim and lite PSP that does a nice job of emphasising it’s lighter. This ad is way easier to grasp than Japan’s towel twisting. What’s more, it’s also cheaper in Korea! The portable is marked down to 178,000 (approx. US $190). It really is lighter. PSP Lite [PSP Vault via PSP Fanboy]

Sony Say Yes, TV Cables Will Make The British PSP Slim Launch

A few days ago, CVG spoke to retailer GAME and came away with news that there’d be no TV cables for the PSP Slim’s British launch. GAME practically own the specialist gaming market in the UK, so if there were no cables for GAME, safe bet was there’d be no cable for anyone else. WRONG. Sony have confirmed that TV cables will indeed be available at the handheld’s launch. So there you have it. Sony confirms white PSP delay, cables available from day one [Gamesindustry.biz]

PSP Slim Firmware Hacked

PSP modding fans fear hardware updates like nuns fear straight priests. But the PSP Slim’s protection is already crumbling, as modders Mathieulh and Dark_Alex have downloaded the firmware from the internal flash memory. …we wont tell how it’s been done, however it shows that hacking into the slim is possible with enough will…

And the other big find is that the internal memory is 66MB in size, or double that of the original PSP. So if my lousy match is correct, we can expect bigger and badder hacks with more complex launching programs. And don’t worry Sony, it certainly won’t hurt your hardware sales one bit.

British PSP Slim Launch Missing Cables, Colours

The PSP Slim launches in Britain on September 14. Two of the big selling points for the handheld are the new video out capabilities and the colour range. Which is why it makes PERFECT sense for SCEE to gip the Brits on both. There will be NO video cables available for the Slim at launch, at all, and Sony don’t know when they’ll be made available. And as far as colours go, it’s black and black only, the promised white and silver coming somewhere, sometime down the line. Time to bust out that stiff upper lip. Big new selling point… not for sale [Games Radar]

Some Menu Differences On The PSP2K

I’m still tinkering around with the settings and such on the PSP Slim that just arrived at the house, but I wanted to get a quick post up about some of the differences I’ve noticed in the settings and such.
