Quantum Of Solace Hits Blu-Ray and DVD
When it exploded onto the big screen late last year, the latest 007 incarnation, Quantum Of Solace, not only spawned a not too shabby video game and smashed a kajillion box office records, but helped introduce a shitload whole heap of new fans to the 007 franchise while it was at it. And now, with the film’s DVD and Blu-Ray available to rent or buy, QOS is set to make even more fans. Starring Daniel Craig in his second spin in the Bond franchise, QOS has everything a Bond film should have: fast cars, over-the-top special effects, gadgets, slimy baddie sidekicks and a Bond girl with six fingers. The Blu-Ray is packed full of special features, including behind-the-scenes featurettes, crew files, plus a music video for “Another Way to Die” featuring Jack White and Alicia Keys. Becoming Bond Quantum of Solace Trailer
3:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Sure, the Quantum of Solace movie is getting a mixed buzz, but that hasn’t dampened our interest in the QoS game. The Activision title runs on a modded Call of Duty 4 engine, which just sounds great. We can already hear the Bond theme in our head. Bond Song Coming to Guitar Hero World Tour
3:20AM Brian Crecente | Reading through a press release about the upcoming Best Buy midnight opening launch event for Quantum of Solace, I stumbled upon this interesting tidbit: Additionally, those in line at 10:00 PM will get the exclusive opportunity to be one of the first to play the Bond song “Another Way to Die” performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys which is soon-to-be-released as downloadable content for Activision’s Guitar Hero® World Tour. I kinda like the song. It would be great if they released this as a freebie, but there’s not even a hint of that, so I’ll just hold my breath until they make it so. Annnnnd GO….. 8:40AM Adam Barenblat | This is the new launch trailer for the Quantum of Solace game, but, more intriguing, it pays homage to the Roger Moore-era classic The Man with the Golden Gun. This video features a suspicious golden hand held weapon that looks as if it kills with one shot. We’ll have to wait for some hands on time to see what they’ve done with the multiplayer, but running on the Call of Duty 4 engine, Bond has never looked better. 12:56PM Seamus Byrne | If you were unaware, the Quantum Of Solace game includes the storyline from both the latest movie and Casino Royale. The events of the new movie begin very shortly after the last, so the combined storyline should work nicely in the game — and probably offers a better selection of sequences to choose for a well paced action game. That said, we only got to taste two scenes at this stage, both from the Casino Royale side of the coin (to prevent us learning any juicy spoilers). First a Vienna chase sequence and then a stealth scene through Casino Royale.
The Vienna sequence was quite a challenge, starting with an underground chase and then moving onto rooftops with quite a lot of enemies to contend with on route. There was no penalty for taking your time, but enemies were happy to throw grenades should you play too conservatively. One issue I found was with the cover system, which was a little too sticky in a crisis. Hopefully this gets loosened up a little before release. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to see here in terms of gameplay, but you do get to see a few new locations that you’ll encounter. 2:00AM Adam Barenblat | Be the man every woman wants and every man wants to be. While that’s a pretty cool tagline for the new Quantum of Solace I still can’t get over the fact that every Bond game since Goldeneye has been less than, well, Goldeneye. This is obviously not new news in any form or fashion, but come on people! we the gamers demand James Bond goodness! Hopefully Quantum of Solace will deliver what we’ve all been longing for. More »
