In very few games have I truly inhabited the persona of a goddam-right-I-am badass, whose demonstrations of power were as personal as Prototype 2‘s. And it’s not because I’ve imagined any of the superpowers you wield in this game, or how I’d perform with them. It’s because of the very normal, very pissed-off man in charge of them.
At the end of the first Prototype, the island of Manhattan suffered tons of property damage after hoodie-wearing protagonist Alex Mercer completed his quest to dish out viral justice. From what we’ve seen of Prototype 2, the city’s become NYZ, a massive hot zone seething with poor, Blacklight virus-infected citizens that new hero James Heller needs to hunt down. So what happened between then and now?
Sgt James Heller from Prototype 2 is not a white guy. He’s a black guy. But he didn’t begin his life that way.
Didn’t play the first Prototype, but want to play the second and don’t know what the hell is going on? Well, watch this trailer. Even if you know what’s going on, watch it.
Prototype 2 will release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on April 24, 2012, Activision said today at San Diego Comic-Con.
Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted and tear it apart with your writing tendrils, would you capture it, or just let it slip? Are you ready to drop tendril bombs in Prototype 2?
In the first Prototype game, protagonist Alex Mercer was the good guy. In the second game, he’s the bad guy.
