Mega 64 stealths their way through the streets of San Francisco, Metal Gear Solid style, until the characters they are portraying finally meet their maker.

In a brilliant callback to their 2007 Game Developers Conference Mario skit, which featured a cameo by creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Mega 64 runs into the creator of the Metal Gear series while roaming the streets of San Fran as Old Snake and badly-dressed Raiden. Unlike Miyamoto, however, Hideo Kojima reacts exactly how we’d imagine the creator of the world’s premiere stealth action title would react. Rumour: Raiden Fighter Aces Coming Stateside For Xbox 360

North Americans may be getting a triple-shot of Raiden style shmupping, positive word delivered via multiple retail listings for the still Japan-only top-down shooter Raiden Fighter Aces.

One of the casualties of region-locked Xbox 360 software, Raiden Fighter Aces was released in Japan last March, bringing the decade-old Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive and Raiden Fighters Jet home on a single disc.

And it wasn’t cheap either, weighing in at a hefty ¥6,800.

Looks like publisher Zoo Games might be the one smart enough to bring it out of Japan, charging a meager $29.99 USD for the compilation. We’re desperately hoping it’s true and praying for other publishers of niche titles like this to come to their senses and either region unlock their shooters or get their US subsidiary’s arse in gear.

Oh, and Raiden IV while you’re at it.

MGS4 Content Comes to Japan’s LittleBigPlanet on Christmas

In Japan, Santa Claus does not have a beard — just a mustache, and an eyepatch. Oh yes; your dreams are almost true. This Christmas, MGS4 and LittleBigPlanet become one.

The “Metal Gear Solid 4 Costume Pack” – as first spotted the other day – will be available to Japanese PlayStation 3 owners with working internet connections and the patience to have actually set up a PlayStation Network account on next Thursday, December 25th, 2008.

The four costumes in the pack are Old Snake, Raiden (aka “The Original Sack Boy”), Meryl, and Screaming Mantis.

The costumes can be purchased in a pack for 600 yen, or individually for 200 yen each. Hey, this calculator must be broken, because it’s telling me that a Japanese company is giving me a bargain.

That’s not all — for just 800 yen more, you can get a “Metal Gear Solid 4 Stage Pack”, containing “more than 60″ stickers, “more than 10″ objects, “more than 10″ create materials, and “3″ (no “more than”) BGM tracks.

Hey, that’s not bad! Now you can make a Metal Gear Solid 4-themed LittleBigPlanet level, turn your Imagination Hat on, and pretend that you’re playing Metal Gear Solid 4 instead of LittleBigPlanet! Just make sure to not include any of the award-winning Metal Gear Solid 4 dialogue in your text boxes, because that could get you moderated into oblivion.

Cynical as I may be re: all this, man, I kinda want that Old Snake. I mean, not as “DLC” — I kinda want him for real. I’d sit him on my lap and ride the bus all the way around town.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Raiden Cosplay: You Have To See It

Normally, we’d slave over a snappy headline to lure you in. Something with “boobs” or “first this or that” or “Haruhi” in the title. But this is Metal Gear Solid 4 cosplay. This is gender-bending Raiden cosplay. It’s a hard sell. And you have to see it. Try as we might, our command of the English language is woefully inadequate in describing just how spectacular this particular outfit is in a simple headline. From the neck down, it’s fairly banal at first blush. From the chin-up however, it’s cosplay brilliance.

Machined visor, lighted LEDs on the headpiece, fits-like-a-glove chin strap, picture perfect wig — we can’t even begin to comprehend the starting point on this one or how much it ultimately cost. Unless this is some off the shelf contraption that how somehow escaped us, this is an amazing piece of work. Consider us humbled.
