Sources deep within the EA borders tells us that professional wrestler Ric Flair and a guy in a bear suit were spotted at the EA Los Angeles gym earlier today. According to the report, “Ric Flair and a guy in a bear suit are currently filming something in the EA Los Angeles gym.” See? Exactly what we said.
Sure, this pandering Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 trailer starts beautifully, with cheesecake shots of cut scene actresses Jenny McCarthy, Gemma Atkinson, Gina Carano and Kelly Hu whose only purpose is to get boys all hot and bothered. But then it becomes lousy with Y chromosome, wrinkly dudes and more established actors. Men. Yuck. At least EA will get a couple more “Premier Edition” sales out of it.
Don’t believe us? You really should watch this trailer, then. Not sure of the precise moment the Red Alert series went from OTT to OTT, but the timing doesn’t matter. Point is, they got there, it was a good idea.

Because it includes Draconian DRM program SecuROM, Spore’s taking a bit of a pounding at the moment. Same thing happened to Mass Effect, same thing happened to BioShock. The message is fairly clear: people know what SecuROM does, and they do not want. EA’s response to this? To let you eat cake. They’re sticking with the software, whether you like it or not, and upcoming RTS title Red Alert 3 will be coming bundled with it. This time, though, they’re going a little easier on you, allowing you five installs (and a few other minor tweaks).
The announcement of Jenny McCarthy as Tanya in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 may have drawn a “uergh” or two from fans of the series. “She’s no fucking Kari Wührer”, some said, which… well, we’re not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult. But the guys at EA sure like Jenny.
Chris Corey, executive producer for Red Alert 3, says that McCarthy is a “badarse” Tanya, that’s she’s more than capable to tackle the role of the special ops commando. After co-piloting a two-player coop demo of the PC version of the real-time strategy game, Corey tried to allay fan fears that the former Playboy Playmate wasn’t ready to fill the tank top. Corey sounded pretty enthused to have her on board.
Hey, if they’re happy, I’m happy.
What the fuck, EA? No Kari Wuhrer? We are not impressed. Yet as you scold us with your left hand, we cannot help but notice how you caress us with your right, as the announcement that George Takei, J K Simmons & Tim Curry will be running the game’s factions goes a long way towards making up for an absence of B-grade T&A. A long way, EA, but not the whole way.
EA announced at its Leipzig Games Convention press conference today additional details on the cast of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, including the casting of Jenny McCarthy, pictured, as Tanya, the staple special ops unit. But that’s not all. The leaders of the three factions — Allies, Empire of the Rising Sun and the Soviet Union — will be played by JK Simmons, George Takei and Tim Curry, respectively. In the trailer we were shown, Takei’s lines appear to be dubbed with his own voice, dialogue intentionally out of synch with his lip movements.
Also announced was the appearance of Kelly Hu, who will join Gina Carano and Gemma Atkinson as the Empire of the Rising Sun’s obligatory sexpot. EA’s definitely going straight for the groin with this one.
Finally, in the cinematic trailer shown at Leipyzig, it appears that Peter Stormare will play a part in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. Oh snap!
Never ones to shy away from a chance to earn an extra buck or two, EA have announced they’ll be releasing a “Premier Edition” of upcoming RTS Red Alert 3. Exclusive (at least in Europe) to GAME, the premium box will see the game packed in a metal tin, along with five exclusive MP/skirmish maps, a DVD with a making-of featurette (along with the sure-to-be-tasteful special “Women of Red Alert 3″), a soundtrack and, curiously, an “Exclusive Beta Key to a future C&C game!” Exclamation is theirs, not ours. The only C&C game we can think of on the horizon is Tiberium, but with that not due for a while, be sure to keep that beta key somewhere you won’t forget about it. Command and Conquer Red Alert 3: Premium Edition – GAME Exclusive! [GAME, thanks Ben!]
For the privileged few, a Red Alert 3 beta test is about to kick off. And in order to get those testers sorted, EA needed to let them know the game’s minimum system specs. Now granted, this being a beta, and with the game a whiles off, things are subject to change. But if they do change, they probably won’t change much. Click through for the full run-down, but if you need a summary first, know that thing’s are looking surprisingly generous.
First EA announced Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, and then they put the PlayStation 3 version on indefinite hold. What’s the deal? Videogamer.com got the skinny from EALA producer Amer Ajami during a recent visit to EA’s UK headquarters. “We actually announced a PS3 version early on but that was when we were still doing a lot of technical exploration of the architecture. PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it’s very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn’t designed for PS3″.
And another game falls to the old “tough to develop for” excuse. There’s still a glimmer of hope, however, as Ajami does go on to say that they might go back and do something with the PS3 later one. Might? PS3 owners need not your “might”. They need Tesla coils, and they need them immediately.
