When Jodie Sweetin was 13, Full House was canceled. The actress, who played Stephanie Tanner, grew up, got married and started doing meth. But her second husband, she says, was a gaming junkie.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson recently talked to MTV’s Movies blog about the likelihood of another Resident Evil movie. It’s still being discussed. Hey, they haven’t even got the storyline worked out yet (if they’d actually stuck to anything at all resembling the game, that might not be an issue).
I’m just starting to talk to Sony about it,” Anderson confessed. “I don’t even know if anything will come of it, but there’s a possibility it might happen.”
The last flick ended on a cliffhanger, as MTV recalls, so another film is likely at some point:
The third and possibly final Resident Evil cinematic masterpiece, scribed by the multi-talented Paul W.S. Anderson of Alien vs. Predator fame, has come home. Resident Evil: Extinction is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, with the latter definitely not featuring playable demos of Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4, despite what you may have heard elsewhere. Anyone pick it up? Get your fill of zombie crows and sand? I’ll refrain from biting remarks, as I’ve yet to see any of the Resident Evil film adaptations due to a crippling fear of hearing Milla Jovovich speak on camera and having better things to do with ninety minutes.
Some errant reporting this morning led a few sites—including Sony’s own semi-official blog ThreeSpeech—to believe that the Blu-ray disc movie release of Resident Evil: Extinction would ship with playable demos of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 for the PlayStation 3. Sorry, but that’s just not true, as Capcom has confirmed.
Users will have to make do with high definition trailers for both games and crystal clear 1080p stills of Milla Jovovich in thigh-revealing outfits.
Sorry, Resident Evil: Extinction does NOT have RE5 and DMC4 demos on the Blu-Ray disc [Capcom]
As Milla Jovovich steps into the role of Alice for Resident Evil: Extinction, the actress explains how to tread that line of making a success film adaptation and not pissing off gamers — well, not too much. Games are just good movie fodder, they are “perfect” says Jovovich. According to the actress:
I think the fantastical worlds in video games are very visual so I think they’re perfect for movies. I think the danger is that if people are doing it just because it’s a good business move they can run into problems. Gamers are very sensitive to people that don’t really love the games and aren’t fans of the games making movies about them. You really have to love the games to make a good movie about it.
Sounds good! So Jovovich must be a huge gamer, right? Right?
Not really. I’m definitely more of a book person myself…
Another medium that routinely gets manhandled by Hollywood. Lovely! Milla Gaming Talk [Yahoo, Thanks Chilly!]
No matter what your personal feelings are about the Resident Evil franchise, it is nice to see a movie based on a video game come in tops at the box office over the weekend. Resident Evil: Extinction took in $24 million this weekend, beating it’s nearest competitor, Good Luck, Chuck by a clean $10 million. This almost makes it the best weekend pull of all three RE movies, beating Apocalypse’s $23 million despite selling less tickets, a testament to ticket prices pushing past ridiculous into ‘no f***ing way’ territory. You win this time, Milla Jovovich, but don’t think this makes up for Ultraviolet.

Editor’s note: I don’t care how it’s doing at the box office – I still think it’s going to be horrible. Soul-destroying even. Do yourself a favour and wait for this.
The third installment of the continuously worsening Resident Evil movie series is finally here, waiting patiently at a theater near you until something you really want to see ends up sold out. From the 18% Resident Evil: Extinction has gotten so far at Rotten Tomatoes, it definitely sounds like the sort of movie you’d only see if nothing else was available, or perhaps on a dare. I personally am amazed at how they’ve taken a concept as glorious as Milla Jovovich killing zombies and made it totally abhorrent to me, though honestly Milla herself contributed greatly to that thanks to her vapid commentary on the first movie’s DVD, where she was revealed as that girl who is extremely hot until she opens her mouth to talk and half the sounds are giggles. Not so much an announcement now as it is a warning – Resident Evil: Extinction is in theatres today. Makes sure to buy your tickets for better movies in advance.
