LittleBigPlanet Gets Resistance DLC To Celebrate...Thanksgiving

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 1:30 PM on November 20, 2008

You may as well settle in. Just like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it looks like LittleBigPlanet will be bringing us enough DLC to justify multiple posts a week on the subject. Today's comes courtesy of Sony Japan, who - bless them - love to announce their DLC ahead of time. Next week, two new LBP costumes will be made available in Japan; a turkey head, and a Resistance 2 outfit. Given the timing, we'll assume that the turkey head is to symbolise thanksgiving, and given the particularly American nature of that holiday, we'll assume it'll be available in the US next week too. Can't see why it wouldn't bring the Chimera head along with it.

Inside Insomniac With Ted Price

Posted by Maggie Greene at 3:30 AM on November 17, 2008

Gamasutra's Christian Nutt sat down with Insomniac CEO Ted Price at their recent community event; the discussion centered heavily on Resistance 2 and the Insomniac development process. Price has a lot to say about how Insomniac deals with requests and suggestions from the user base, both on their own community as well as elsewhere (and gives us a ringing endorsement with "Well, sure, Kotaku is a good source."). A particular challenge was and is getting a handle on how best to design for online modes, since it's a bit of a 'black hole' for developers:

New ESRB Ratings Tread Into Spoiler Territory

Posted by Owen Good at 10:00 AM on November 16, 2008

This week, when the ESRB reported new ratings guidelines, and two senators seem pleased, but if you're curious how a game like Fallout 3 gets treated in the more descriptive write-ups, be warned, because they can be so specific they give away huge parts of the story.

Frankenreview: Resistance 2

Posted by Mike Fahey at 4:40 AM on November 12, 2008

When the PlayStation 3 began shipping back in November of 2006, there was really only one must-have game for the console, and that was Insomniac's ambitious first-person shooter, Resistance: Fall of Man. The best title at launch remains one of the best games on the console to date. Only one game due out this holiday season has a hope of stealing the sci-fi FPS crown on the console, and that's it's sequel, Resistance 2.

Resistance 2 Review: Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 9:40 AM on November 8, 2008

Insomniac Games delivers the second Resistance just two years after the PlayStation 3 launched with the original, armed with a full clip of marketable bullet points. Online multiplayer with up to sixty people, an extensive eight-player cooperative campaign, bigger polygon counts, more massive enemies and a world-spanning adventure all add up to the epic, but succinctly named Resistance 2. Set just a few years after the events of Resistance: Fall of Man, the sequel continues right where the first left off, dropping what didn't work and largely improving upon what did.

Resistance 2 Launch Day Screen Extravaganza

Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:40 AM on November 5, 2008

Insomniac's follow-up to the hands-down best launch title for the PlayStation 3 is in stores today, and in celebration we've been flooded with screenshots from Resistance 2. I'm heading out to pick up a copy later on in the afternoon, and the shots just make the wait even more painful. It's certainly a hell of a lot more colourful than the original, which was the poster child for the whole "Real is Brown" phenomenon that plagued the early lives of the current gen systems. Maybe I can convince Crecente I am sick so I can skip out early. Perhaps I shouldn't post said plan on the site he is the Managing Editor of. Damn.

Check out the screenies.

The Best Shooter This Holiday According To Call of Duty Dev...

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 3:00 PM on October 29, 2008

Resistance 2? Gears of War 2? Far Cry 2? The best shooter this holiday is Call of Duty: World at War — so say the folks who made it. "There's a lot of competition this year," says Treyarch's senior producer Noah Heller, "but I feel very strongly we have the best shooter this Christmas... I'm looking forward to Gears of War, Far Cry and Resistance 2, and I'm sure they will be great games, but I am confident the consumer will come back to Call of Duty." Well, what do you expect him to say, that they've made the fourth best shooter this Christmas. Be sure to buy the new CoD, it's not as good as the two other big shooters! Fat chance.
