Rock Band DLC's Worst Week Ever?

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:20 AM on November 27, 2008

The newly announced DLC for Rock Band is certainly... eclectic. New Children of Bodom joins fresh Naked Brothers Band, all at reduced prices, a mix that Harmonix says is "keeping you on your toes."

Your Guitar Hero World Tour Drums Now Work In Rock Band 2

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on November 25, 2008

Owners of the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band 2 will be asked to upgrade their copies to version 1.01 today. That hundredth increase in version numbering brings with it a bunch of new bug fixes, the most noteworthy being a corrected "interoperability issue" with Guitar Hero World Tour drum and guitar peripherals. Happy, happy clutter-free days! Even better, if you found yourself somehow on the receiving end of a copy of Konami's Rock Revolution, that game's drum kit will work too. For the full list of changes, read on.

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:30 AM on November 22, 2008

The rumours were true, Yngwie Malmsteen is shredding his way to Rock Band and Rock Band 2 next week. Rumour: Yngwie Malmsteen, More Soundgarden Coming To Rock Band

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on November 21, 2008

The next batch of downloadable tracks for Rock Band and Rock Band 2 may have been leaked a little early, courtesy of the in-game music store and some eagle-eyed ScoreHero forum members. We'd advise you to take it as rumour for now, as the face-melting promise of these tracks would only lead to disappointment if they're incorrect. We're talking about the oft-requested by Luke Plunkett "Jesus Christ Pose" by Soundgarden and a triple shot of Yngwie (Fucking) Malmsteen. Oh, and Lamb of God if that's up your alley. For the rumoured next DLC update, read on.

Guitar Hero World Tour Doubles Rock Band 2's October Take

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 8:40 AM on November 15, 2008

The release of yesterday's top ten best selling software in the U.S. was curiously absent of any rhythm game presence. No Guitar Hero World Tour, no Wii Music, no Rock Band 2, all of which saw new releases in October. A look at the top twenty, however, shows that, save for Wii Music, that Guitar Hero World Tour outsold the debut of Rock Band 2 on the PlayStation 3. And, according to a report from GameDaily, the Activision Blizzard published game outdid the Rock Band competition in dollar sales by about two to one.

Too Drunk To Download - Dead Kennedys DLC For Rock Band

Posted by Stuart Houghton at 6:20 AM on November 15, 2008

So conflicted about this. On the one hand, this must represent exactly the kind of corporate licensing sellout that has scratched a deep division between former vocalist Jello Biafra and his erstwhile bandmates.

The Official Guitar Hero/Rock Band Compatibility Chart

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:30 PM on November 14, 2008

If you own both Guitar Hero (III or World Tour) and Rock Band (1 or 2), you'll be both familiar and ultimately sick of the compatibility issues between the two franchises. They will work, they won't work, they might work, they should work; trying to get hard, final word on just which instruments will work with which game has been a messy, convoluted and confusing experience. Until now, that is! The official Guitar Hero community crew have put together an extensive chart, outlining which instruments will work with which game. Bravo. Click through for all four charts for all four platforms.

Rock Band Special Edition Bundle Slashed To $US99

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:00 AM on November 14, 2008

Starting a band and rocking the world got a hell of a lot cheaper today, as Harmonix, MTV Games and EA have dropped the price of the original Rock Band Special Edition bundle to just $US99.99 for the Wii and PlayStation 2. That includes Rock Band software, the drum kit, guitar controller and microphone, just in case there was any confusion there.

Car Insurance Provider Deftly Avoids MTV, Activision Lawsuits

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 5:40 PM on November 13, 2008

Never let it be said SafeAuto, providers of automobile insurance to the American south since 1993, don't know what's hot with the kids. They know Rock Band is hot with the kids. Or Guitar Hero: World Tour. One of the two. But not specifically either of them. Get any more specific and SafeAuto will be speaking with lawyers representing MTV and/or Activision.

Team Obama Endorses Rock Band

Posted by Owen Good at 7:00 AM on November 12, 2008

Sort of. Tucked in a long how-the-campaign-was-won feature in The New Yorker is this little tidbit about President Elect-Obama's communications staff, and how they maxxed and relaxed after a long day of writing talking points and beating up on McCain.

"Like many campaign teams, Obama's was young. The communications department -made up mostly of guys in their twenties and thirties -- had a fraternity-house quality. On weekends, they would often drink beer together and play the video game "Rock Band" at a group house in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighbourhood."
