Australia’s official Xbox commuity blog, InsiderX, continues to release fascinating insights into the buy and playing habits of Aussie 360 gamers. Like this.
Telltale Games is releasing the first season of Sam & Max on Xbox Live Arcade on June 17 as Sam & Max Save the World.
For those who don’t read/follow comics that closely, know that the Eisner awards are, for want of a better metaphor, the Oscars of comics. Know also that Sam & Max are up for one!
Telltale brings their dog and rabbity-thing adventures to a whole new audience, announcing both seasons of the award-winning Sam & Max series for Xbox Live Arcade.
Sure, you’ve seen game toys before. Gears, Halo, King of Fighters, Street Fighter. But have you seen anything as beautiful as this Sam & Max statue? You say yes, you’re a liar.
It’s an interesting question. Telltale’s own Bone died before its time, SiN did likewise, and most full game sequels come around faster than Half-Life 2′s “episodes”. So why, the, does Sam & Max stand as the only successful episodic series to date?
And here we were thinking Telltale were working on Sam & Max for the Wii. Right system, wrong series, wrong format. While the company are indeed developing titles for Nintendo’s console, they’re not working on Sam & Max. Instead, they’re working on a new episodic series for the new WiiWare service. I’d like to think that means they’re returning to work on the long-neglected Bone series, but it probably means something entirely new altogether. It’s official: We’re working on something for WiiWare [Telltale]
Had to happen. Had to. A press release on JoWood’s website is claiming that the Austrian publishers will be releasing Telltale’s Sam & Max series on the Wii. Can’t see how this couldn’t work. The game’s simple graphics engine can run on the Wii, the Wii Remote steps in for the mouse, everyone’s happy. And while speculation is mounting that the game may be available on Nintendo’s upcoming WiiWare downloadable service, common sense says that line of thinking is…wishful. Our money’s on a disc-based release of the PC’s “Season 1″. We’ve contacted Telltale for a little more info, we’ll get back to you when there’s more to get back to you about. ACG had a little chat with Steve Purcell, creator of Sam & Max. They cover a lot of ground, from comics to TV to his work with Lucasarts and Telltale, but perhaps the most interesting is what he’s got to say about the canned Sam & Max 2. That game was probably between two thirds and three quarters done. I never had a chance to get upset because the fan backlash was so immediate and intense. As far as LucasArts current path, it seems that adventure games are just not part of their plan. It’s a new company with a different direction from their roots but I guess it’s working for them.
You could easily say it’s not been working for them, considering their market share now compared to, oh, 1995, but whatever. The real tragedy is that, at ¾ done, somewhere there is playable, no doubt enjoyable code from Sam & Max Freelance Police. Steve Purcell [Adventure Classic Gaming, via Blues News][Image: Telltale]
