New Samus Cosplay International Champion Crowned

Who’s winning the Metroid cosplay wars? The Swedes looked to have had it locked down, thanks to Samus cosplayer Jenni Källberg. But Brazil has fired a shot across Sweden’s bow, one named Thaís.

26-year-old Thaís Jussim is the one responsible for the beautifully crafted Samus Aran space suit seen above, one the Brazilian Metroid Prime fan assembled over the course of six months. The beast of a bounty hunter suit is lit by 73 battery powered LEDs and set Jussim back US$350 in material costs.

Jussim, who created the suit with the help of friends and family, says the suit weighs about 23 pounds and is surprisingly not very comfortable. Who would have guessed. Jussim also reveals that there’s, uh… Zero Suit Samus cosplay in the works, by the way. It’s her next project.

This One-Year Child Is Game Character Genius (Watch!)

Here baby Melodie shows off her very extensive knowledge of game characters. So amazing. So cute.

The adowable girl is reader Landon’s niece. Landon and his brother are life long gamers, and his brother made some flash cards of famous game characters. He showed them to his daughter over the course of about three days, and the darling child was able to memorize them all and dazzle us all. Bravo!

Metroid Prime Phazon Suit Statue

First 4 Figures have done very good things with the Metroid licence, from the classic Varia Suit to the sexy Zero Suit Samus, but their latest creation leaves their previous efforts in the dark. Phazon Suit Samus. Being infected with a glowing mutagen has never looked so good!

The statue is crafted entirely in transparent resin, with over 25 LED lights incorporated to give it the unhealthy Phazon glow, and the who thing is mounted on a mirror base that ties the whole effect together. Standing at 11 inches tall, Phazon Suit Samus is very pretty, but also pretty rare at only 1,500 pieces worldwide, and pretty expensive at $US 224.99. If you’ve got the funs and are so inclined, hit up the order page immediately to make sure you get yours when they are released in early 2009. Metroid Prime Phazon Suit Next in First 4 Figures Metroid Line!

With the unique colour scheme of black helmet and red visor, the Phazon Suit is awarded after defeating the Omega Pirate. Both Samus’ suit and gun are infected with pure Phazon. This gives the Phazon Suit an ability to protect Samus from the deadly effects of the deadly blue substance and shoot the Phazon Beam when standing in pools of Phazon. Just when Metroid Prime is defeated, the Phazon Suit is stolen and used to create one of Samus’ greatest enemies, Dark Samus!

First 4 Figures is extremely proud to present the ultimate version of the Samus Aran’s Phazon Suit. First 4 Figures has used the official game files in order to create an extremely accurate recreation of the Phazon suit, with pose inspiration taken from official Metroid artwork.

Looks incredibly on its own and really completes a display when put together with the Varia suit and Gravity suit statues.

We completely reengineered the original Varia suit model to make the Phazon suit by casting it entirely in transparent resin, adding over 25 LED lights through the suit and finished it off by adding a mirror base which really shows off the lights. When the lights are turned off, an internal IC chip allows for the lights to fade out slowly. The statue is hand finished and hand painted with metallic paints to give an authentic representation of the suits. Comes packed in a foam interior full coloured box with a card of authenticity.

The Phazon Suit is highly limited at just 1500 pieces worldwide.

Samus is obviously above, with Peach after the jump, because she may be NSFW. Things look awfully decomposed down there. Still not 100% sure.

Samus, Unreal Tournament III’s Newest Contender

After transplanting Master Chief from his warm, green home on the Xbox 360 to the PlayStation 3, it was hard to imagine a greater iconoclastic modder offense…but one may have just happened. The newest entrant to the UTIII unlicensed mods club is this Samus Aran skin. Play Metroid, kinda, on your PS3!

As Microsoft explained before, there’s nothing illegal about creating or downloading such mods. But that doesn’t mean Epic will pay you $US 1,000,000 for one. Their Make Something Unreal Contest bans the use of “third party intellectual property, including, but not limited to software, images, characters, logos, names and trademarks.” Still, some pranks are so good, they’re worth the free work.

Bloody Samus Cosplay Done Right

Most cosplay fails from either poor costume construction or the revealing of too much unruly flesh. Few want to see Tifa reimagined as a heroine whose shorts are bursting at the seams with layers of manifested laziness, one reason why the generally slender cosplayers in Japan are held in high regard in such circles. Thankfully, this Metroid Prime-style Samus Aran cosplay, as performing by Swedish student Jenni KÃ¤llberg hits all the right marks. Good outfit, adequate wig, excellent details and a distinct lack of body sloppiness. Many more photos at the link below.

Wii Meets Metroid, eBay

Not much for the shiny cases or even just the plain white? Well, it might take a little more time compared to replacing a chassis – depending on how artistic you are (or how good you are with a dremel) – but this Metroid-inspired Wii mod takes the cake in terms of cool console creations.

Delightful Custom Samus Figure

Nintendo, you’re dropping the ball when it comes to ~~toys~~ adult collectibles. Those First 4 Figures things are crap, and as an alternative there’s little outside of Japanese capsule figures. There’s a gap in the market, one where there’s demand, and one which is currently being filled by one man. Red3183. He’s making his own Samus figure, and when I say make, I mean make – moulds, casting, sculpting, the works. Plus, it’s not some immovable cast – it’s poseable, so you can put her in any position you can dream up for her and her flexible orange hips.
