PSPgo Review: A Peek Into The Future Of Gaming

Smaller, easier to use and completely devoid of a disc drive of any sort, the PSPgo is powered only by digital media, a brave step into the future of gaming. But is it a future in which we want to live?

Patapon 2 Helps You Keep Your Groove

In Patapon you controlled an assortment of highly stylized characters by tapping out music on the four face buttons of the Playstation Portable. I was a big fan of the game, but found over time that unless I gave it 100 percent of my attention I would often lose the beat.

WipEout HD Leaves The Garage A Bit Buggy

The release of WipEout HD was a long time a-comin’ and, unfortunately, its launch on the PlayStation Store is not without its problems. PlayStation 3 owners are reporting that their copies of the SCEE developed hoverracer are locking up, with users pointing to larger friend lists as a potential source of the problem. We contacted Sony PR to find out more.

“Following the release of WipEout HD on PLAYSTATION Store yesterday, we’ve been following the reports by some members of the community regarding problems with game freezes,” SCEA reps confirmed. “We’d like to reassure you all that the WipEout team is working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

As far as the cause, SCEA tells us that anything we might have read about the source of the issue is, at this point, “rumour and speculation.” It is worth noting though, that some WipEout HD players are noting that they’re having better luck with a leaner friend list. Just sayin’.

European PSN Gets Qore (Well, Sort Of) As Well

SCEA has the PlayStation.Blog, it’s great, Europe sadly hasn’t followed suit. SCEA has Qore, it’s rubbish, and whaddya know, Europe is following suit! SCEE have signed a deal with Future Publishing that will see an “on-console, weekly digital magazine available exclusively through the PlayStation Network”. Before you ask, yes, they’re claiming the content will be editorial in nature, with demos and DLC – concerningly for people hoping the PSN remains “free” – also on the menu. It’ll be offered in the UK first, in early 2009, with other European territories to follow.

A Good, Long Look At The God Of War Copyright Claims

To recap: a couple of people are suing both David Jaffe and SCEA over God of War, claiming the game’s storyline is, in several places, a little too close to their movie script for comfort. How close? Boing Boing Gadget’s Rob Bechizza takes a good look at the individual claims, which range from similarities between God of War’s map and that drawn up for the Olympiad screenplay to the difference between a Bottomless Chasm and a Bottomless Valley. Basically, some of the points look valid, some complete garbage, you can make up your own mind by checking out the full breakdown at the link below.

Who Can Make Sense Of This PlayStation 3 Ad?

With the exception of Sony’s “U R Not E” campaign and the inflicting of Saliva’s godawful “Ladies and Gentlemen” upon us a countless number of times this year, we’re generally fans of the PlayStation marketing machine. We even kind of liked the “This Is Living” series of non sequitors that annoyed UK gamers in 2007. That said, we’re having a hard time wrapping our string of brain cells around the “Matrjoska” print ad running in Spain.

Are Sony trying to appeal to the portly gamer set who prefer to masquerade as teenage waifs online? Or is it the other way around, speaking to the blue ocean market of women with runway physiques who desperately long to be a morbidly obese and wear nothing but brown? Or is it just “Look, nipples!”? We’re stumped.

Here’s Your LittleBigPlanet Release Date

Sony Europe just sent through official word that LittleBigPlanet has a release date. And that date is Friday, October 24. Just over a month away. Seems strange that something we’ve been following so closely for so long as a “it’s coming sometime in the distant future” will actually be with us, but hey, if Spore can do it, LBP can do it too.
