The Playstation Portable Travel Kit

Posted by Brian Crecente at 12:00 AM on November 19, 2008

I received this odd little bit of marketing in the mail this week. The Playstation Portable "travel pack" came with a press release touting the year the portable has had. Inside the carrying case are a bunch of pockets filled with earplugs, sleeping mask, an inflatable pillow and a little clock. Why is everything geared toward sleeping if this is also meant to hold my Playstation Portable? Hmm, maybe that's why the cardboard PSP included in the carrier has a screen loaded with, well, old games. You've got your Jeanne D'Arc, your Buzz, your Beats, your Hot Shots Golf 2. Sure, they're all part of the PSP-friendly Playstation Store, but what game could you put on that fake screen to show off the latest and greatest for the PSP. Not to say that the cardboard screen of a faux DS would fare any better.

Sony Drop Kicks PSP-3000's 4GB Entertainment Pack

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:40 AM on October 28, 2008

Some of you wrote to us this weekend wondering why the hell Amazon (or the online retailer of your choosing) cancelled your PSP-3000 pre-order. Well, if you were one of the dozens, if not hundreds, who opted for the 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack — which featured a PSP 3000 and 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo — Sony cancelling the release of said Entertainment Pack is the reason why. No, they're not abandoning the thing entirely to fix that little screen issue.

Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 1:00 AM on October 22, 2008

Seth Luisi, Director of Development at SCEA, made an announcement on the SOCOM Confrontation official website yesterday saying he's quite thrilled by the consumer response for the game since its launch, with players averaging 3.1 hours per person and over 300,000 player hours daily. Of course this has come at a cost, specifically to their servers, he said.

New Resistance: Retribution Screens

Posted by Adam Barenblat at 4:20 AM on October 11, 2008

Let's talk a little bit about Resistance's smaller, but not so small brother. It's got a new 3rd person view which is a departure from what we've played on PlayStation 3. It's got 8 player online matches which can be pretty fun to play on a handheld. And for it being a PSP game, it gosh darn beautiful. Is this going to make PSPs fly off store shelves? not likely, but we'll just have to wait and see. A few screens after the jump.

More Tiny Billboards, This Time for LittleBigPlanet

Posted by Brian Crecente at 12:00 AM on September 10, 2008

Last week we pointed out, with the help of a telescope, the nifty new tiny Spore billboard found in San Francisco. Today a gamer his us up with images of another tiny billboard campaign, this one for LittleBigPlanet.

The tiny billboards are being placed around major cities, apparently in the U.S. only for now. They were first noted in an eBay listing. Some lucky guy wandered outside of his work one day to find one of these tiny signs planted in the nearby dirt. After doing a bit of research he discovered it was destined to be pitched and instead got his hands on it. It was labelled 99 of 100.

Helpful tipster Barry contacted SCEA's ad agency and managed to get them to send him a few more pics which he sent on to us and I've posted on the jump. So be on the lookout for these tiny little ads. We still have more than 90 to find. They're like real world Easter Eggs... but, you know, not eggs or for Easter.

Will the Real New Socom: Confrontation Screens Please Stand Up?

Posted by Adam Barenblat at 8:40 AM on August 27, 2008

When I got those Socom: Confrontation screens yesterday I knew something wasn't right. In fact, I had to look to make sure the game wasn't also coming out on PSP. Turns out we received some older images accidentally from Sony. Today we got the real new ones and boy does the game look good! This is the high resolution texture goodness I was expecting from the next generation Socom. More images after the jump.

Sony Responds To NPD Sales, Seems Pleased

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:20 AM on August 15, 2008

The PlayStation brand had a pretty darn good month, as it continues to cool off from strong Metal Gear Solid 4 sales, with over 600,000 things named PlayStation sold in the U.S. last month. Sony Computer Entertainment America responded to those NPD figures today, citing "strong momentum" — one of our favourite intangibles — and flooding us with growth percentages.

The first percentage of note is the 99% year-to-date hardware sales growth of the PS3. SCEA also wows us with a 206% figure, which one can apply to year-to-date software sales on that platform. Stop! We're already getting dizzy!

We'll just let the soothing words and overhyphenating of CEO Jack Tretton finish the post off. He says "Our year-to-date sales growth of 99% for the PS3 reaffirms that consumers are indeed embracing PS3 as their entertainment hub-of-choice with its feature-rich offerings like Blu-ray and our recently announced video delivery service". Full percentage peppered gloat after the jump.

Resistance 2, Hold On To Those Resistance Saves

Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 6:20 AM on August 7, 2008

While I didn't attend E3 - I was hanging out in Kotaku Tower with Luke working the night shift - I did get to see the presentation of Resistance 2 just like everyone else. But since I didn't get to see the game in person, I had to make due by viewing screenshots and somewhat muddy-looking movies on my computer. At the time, I wasn't too impressed with the game from a graphical standpoint. I mean, it looked great, but after sitting down on a nice couch in front of a big-arse TV, I can say with confidence that, yes, Resistance 2 does look amazing.

Insomiac's James Stevenson gave me a run-through of the Resistance 2 demo from E3.
