They also won’t be sold to the general public. Ron Eagle, the director of product publicity for the PlayStation, said he got a call from Nike, who wanted to make him some PlayStation-themed shoes to say thanks for past collaboration and support. Eagle is a self-described “shoe guy”, so of course the idea fired him up.

When I got the call and was told that they wanted to make a shoe, of course the first thing I asked was … what kind? They told me they were working on a new training shoe, one that would be technically very advanced, but would harken back to some of the great training shoes from their past, like the ones worn by Bo Jackson and John McEnroe. As soon as they said the word McEnroe – I was completely sold as the original Air Trainer 1, is one of my all time favourite shoe designs and something I remember wearing to school.

It started from there, asking me about favourite colours, and anything that I did or didn’t like. The designers are just so good at taking input and making really slick creative choices, that when the line drawings come over, I’m just stunned. As you already know, we like to do things that haven’t been done or are totally unique and that was one of the things that the guys at Nike knew that they wanted to do when they asked me what I liked.

Sony and Nike teamed up on highly sought-after Air Force One designs in 2006 and in 2009. Eagle said in those efforts, “we were working toward something with the other shoes. … This being a “thank you” it could have been so many things—yet the guys at Nike got that it should be unique and it makes it very special to me because of that.”

Doesn’t sound like they’ll hit eBay anytime soon. You can see more of the designs over at the link.

The NEW PlayStation Air Nike Trainer 1 [Sole Collector, via TheShoeGame, thanks Pete A.]

There’s a lot to choose from when it comes to gamer-created gamer apparel, of course. Also people are coming up with new stuff all the time. But I’ve picked out five pairs of shoes that I’ve found in the last year which I’d seriously considering buying if I weren’t a starving journalist. These fancy kicks were mocked up by Daniel Reese by my request after I got in touch with him over pricing on the Moogle shoes. Even if it’s just a Photoshop job of what the shoes would look like, I think the design is spiffy, I love the colour pink and I find that there’s not nearly enough in the way of Princess Peach-related shoes to buy these days.

I remember decorating Keds in summer camp when I was a kid with fabric glue and glitter, but my childish creations are nothing compared to these kicks. I like the design because it’s subtle and the colours will go with most of my wardrobe. Unfortunately, I find Keds slip-ons to be beastly uncomfortable until you beat them into submission — and that would probably damage the paint.

I’ve never worn LA Gear brand slip-ons, so I’ll just have to trust the artist’s claim that these shoes are comfortable. Other than that, I like how vibrant that red acrylic looks — even if it is too loud to get away with wearing to an office job. Also, I’m not sure how I feel about the cord spelling out N-E-S on the back of the right shoe. My preference with gamer clothing of any kind is subtlety that separates gamers from posers. In other words, if you have to ask me what’s on my shoes, you clearly aren’t cool enough to hang out with me.

It’s not hard to find ladies sizes of shoes, but I rarely run across actual ladies shoes (heels, slingbacks, etc.) in my quest for gamer clothing. These classic Mary Jane slip-ons are decorated with what looks like felt pieces and tiny accessories, so I’d be a little worried about ruining them after only three wearings. But still, it’s Ms. Pac-Man and it’s comparatively cheap.

I spotted these while Hanukkah shopping with my dad earlier this year and almost bought them just because they had the Kotaku colour scheme. Sadly, though, they only had mens sizes too big for my little feet. Also, while I could claim I had Kotaku shoes, they’re not really Kotaku-themed enough to speak for themselves. Still cool, though.

These five pairs are but a few examples of awesome gamer shoes to be found on the Internet. For further reading, go check out some of the other shoes we’ve spotted over the years.

Normally, you don’t see Moogle-related fashion items when searching for Final Fantasy apparel. I had a particularly fruitless search for someone’s Christmas present a few years back that ended in a lousy key chain and damaged friendship. Depending on how much Reese charges for his custom-made kicks, I can maybe count on repairing it a little with some Moogle shoe love.

That, or I can just keep them for myself. In which case, I may want to consider his Tetris-inspired designs instead. So pretty.

Though the shoes don’t bear Pac-Man’s actual likeness, they’ve got the same colour palette as the classic arcade marquee. That means lots of yellow, lots of blue and not very much pink.

As awesome as the shoes look, I’m not sure if I’d shell out for them. Dunks are comfortable and I do like bright, shiny things. But when it comes to video game shoes, I’d really rather have Pac-Man’s actual face on my kicks. Or at least an etching of the ghosties on the sole of the shoe — that’d be awesome.

Nike SB Pacman Dunk High [NSB via Go Nintendo]

To go with this announcement, Capcom has also blogged a fabulous pair of fan-made shoes.

Flock! for those of you sheeple who haven’t gotten into it, yet, is an adorable puzzle game where players control a UFO and try to herd animals through hazardous environments back to the main spaceship, “The Mother Flocker.” The unbearable cuteness of the game has spawned a playset that you can get from the Capcom store for $US30.

The Grim Fandango Converse. [Kyozo Kicks]

You’d have to be pretty comfortable with that level of colour on your feet, particularly since those colors—apparently lifted from the Ms. Pac-Man arcade cabinet—we’re designed to attract attention amid the visual din of a noisy arcade during the early 80s. Fortunately, I am that comfortable, so a pre-ordering I will do!

If you’re similarly uninhibited about your footwear, expect these to drop in May at select retailers.

Like most Nike SB sneakers, they appear to be largely logo free—swoosh and Nike badge excepted. That means these kicks are more homage than they are officially licensed.

Nike SB Ms. Pacman Quickstrike Is Coming! [UNIV via CtotheJL]

Last month we wrote about a pair of Air Force 1 Playstation 2 Tenth Anniversary shoes that Sony sent us.

The auction for the shoes just went live on eBay with 100 percent of the proceeds going to anti-Teen Dating Violence organisation Jennifer Ann’s Group. Only 50 of these were made.

The shoes are size 11.5, new and unworn. They’re also sitting right by my desk as I type this. Go bid for charity if you’re so inclined. The auction ends in ten days.

New! Nike Air Force 1 Playstation 2 10th Anniv. shoes [eBay]

If there’s one thing guaranteed to please our ageing eyes more than a pair of Monkey Island-themed Chuck Taylors, it’s a pair of Day of the Tentacle-themed Chuck Taylors.

They’re once again the work of the talented Maya Plisetskaya, who once again has us wishing Lucasarts spent less time licensing shitty Star Wars games and more time licensing classic game memorabilia.

You can even buy them if you like, but the cheeky Miss Plisetskaya has them priced at €250, which works out to be a whopping 330 of your American dollars.

I might save my cash and wait for the Full Throttle pair.
