The newest Wii-make, part of Nintendo’s “Wii de Asobu” series is Mario Power Tennis. It also happens to be Japan’s favourite game, at least for this week-long span, landing the number one spot.

Now that Japanese game releases are off vacation, things are starting to get interesting. Perhaps most notable are the number of PlayStation 3 games that charted this week. With the release of Fallout 3, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm and GRID in Japan, a total of seven PS3 games charted in the top thirty, according to Media Create.

The latest new releases kick former number one, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, from its top spot. It’s well on its way to a million copies sold, something it should probably accomplish by the end of February.

The top thirty games in Japan, from January 12th to the 18th are…

01. Wii de Asobu: Mario Power Tennis (Wii) – 57,000 / NEW
02. Megami Ibunroku: Devil Survivor (DS) – 55,000 / NEW
03.
While the PlayStation 3 game slipped, it held strong in the top ten, slipping to sixth. We call that “legs.” Not the sturdiest of legs, mind you, considering pretty much nothing else came out against this week’s chart-toppers, but legs nonetheless.

Also leggy is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III, which got a sales shot in the arm for an 11th place finish. The rest of the charts is mostly the Wii and Nintendo DS stuff we’ve been charting for months. Read on for the top thirty, according to Media Create.

01. Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP) – 104,000 / 770,000
02. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (DS) – 89,000 / 1,535,000
03. Kirby Super Star Ultra (DS) – 77,000 / 998,000
04.
The fan service filled fighter for the PlayStation Portable moved almost a half-million units in its first week on the charts, soundly beating Gundam Musou 2 for the PlayStation 3 by a ratio of more than two to one. And at 6,090 yen, Dissidia’s not on the cheaper end of PSP games. Yes, Square Enix made itself some money.

Some good news for Sony was that Gundam Musou 2 landed at number two on the PS3, with the Xbox 360 version failing to make a top thirty appearance. Fable II did, however, but at the 23rd spot.

Taking the top spot is Taiko no Tatsujin Wii the follow up to Meccha! Taiko Drum Master DS: 7-tsu no Shima no Daibouken for the Nintendo DS — which, almost coincidentally, returns to the charts at #30. Konmi’s Penguin no Mondai represents the only other debut to chart in the top ten.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom didn’t perform as well, landing at #16, falling behind the Gamecube-to-Wii remake Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. That’s gotta sting.

01. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii (Wii) – 106,000 / NEW
02. Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii) – 98,000 / 587,000
03.
With more than double the sales of Konami’s World Soccer Winning Eleven 2009 for the PS3, Professor Layton and The Final Time Journey begins its own journey to another DS best seller. We wave goodbye to Grand Theft Auto IV and see both Wii Music and Wii Sports teetering on the brink of slipping out of top thirty focus.

For the best selling software in Japan, from Nov. 24 to 30, read on, you crazy diamond.

If the debut of Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City (nee City Folk) is any indication, Nintendo has another hit on its hands. City Folk landed at #1, with Wild World for the DS still in the top 30.

City Folk for the Wii was just one of five new debuts claiming half of the top ten, beating out Square Enix’s Chrono Trigger DS and The Last Remnant. Another strong Xbox 360 Japanese-style role-playing game that should help Microsoft’s fortunes overseas. Former chart-topper Kirby will likely move over 500,000 copies of Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe by the end of the year.

A handful of PlayStation 3 titles show stronger sales legs than their counterparts, potentially a good sign for Sony in Japan. Media Create sales for November 17 to 24 are after the jump.

It kicks last week’s champ Grand Theft Auto IV from the top of the charts. Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe joins five other Nintendo DS games in the top ten, the only new debut to chart above the jump.

Recently launched PlayStation 3 titles GTA IV, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III and LittleBigPlanet do good enough business to stay in the top ten, a feat we don’t expect to see repeated next week. New releases like Samurai Dou 3, Family Ski: World Ski & Snowboard and Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren DS 2 – Sabaku no Majou will probably take up valuable chart real estate.
