Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has cancelled “a small number of projects” formerly in development across its British studios. The same studios that make games like WipeOut.
There once was a time when music games were the biggest – and in some cases best – thing to happen to the video game industry. Oh, how those times have changed.
Just one of these days I’d like to see a music game come with music I actually like. That day is not today, as Sony announces SingStar Chart Hits, the latest in the franchise to be exclusive to Australia.
SingStar is the ugly stepsister of the music genre. It’s only loved in one territory, it’s one-dimensional, its soundtrack has limited appeal. But there’s one area Sony’s karaoke series is trumping the competition.
SingStar is normally something you associate with “Europeans”, “drunk women” and “popular music”. But with Christmas coming up, Sony figured it might be a good idea to add “tacky holiday songs” to the list as well.
Interesting. Yesterday, we ran a story from British trade site MCV, who claimed that Sony had signed a deal with EA for the PS3-exclusive release of Singstar: Beatles. Thing is, Harmonix are being all…funny about it.
