Far Cry 3 And The Stranger In A Strange Land Sure, Spryo may be the ostensible core of Activision’s hit Skylanders franchise but once upon a time, he started off as a simple pencil-on-paper drawing.
The next line of Skylanders toys — those figures that can be synced to video games of the same name — include some sort of “light technology.” Whatever. I ran into the guy who runs the Skylanders development studio at the airport last week and mocked that silly bit of hype.
It might seem like physical media is on its last legs. Between digital distribution, downloadable content, and the proliferation of online platforms like Valve’s Steam and EA’s Origin, the gaming industry seems to be inching closer and closer to virtual reality every day.
As you might have guessed from the screenshots, trailers or your ability to read words, Activision’s upcoming Skylanders Giants will feature a set of new figures called Giants. You’ll be able to collect up to eight of the hulking creatures, which are twice the size of normal Skylander action figures both in-game and in real life.
Most of this buzz clip that accompanied today’s Skylanders Giants announcement is Activision beating its brawny chest about the success of their new toy-and-video-game franchise. But you’ll see a snippet of gameplay featuring new larger-than-normal character Tree Rex towards the end of the video. He’s doing big things.
