Sonic Team Producer Tetsu Katano is the man to blame if you’re not happy with Sonic and the Black Knight. It was his idea to slap a sword in the hands of a hedgehog.
Sonic the Hedgehog fans (read: masochists) will be delighted to learn that, should Sega see fit to subject them to another Sonic Unleashed title, the lumbering, stretchy “werehog” is almost guaranteed to return.
Much to my surprise, shoved in between games like House of the Dead: Overkill, Mad World, and The Conduit, was another Sonic game. I decided to take a (very) quick look at it.
With Sonic’s latest outing receiving less-than-stellar reviews so far, Sega shifts focus over to Sonic and the Black Knight for the Wii with a host of colourful new screenshots.
Oh look! It’s Sonic the Hedgehog, going up against a cool-looking knight with a bad-arse sword! NO EFFECT! Years ago I may have had to roll a saving throw against my own geekiness to avoid drowning in my drool over a game that armed Sonic with a sword, but at this point you could have him swinging a life-sized, photo-realistic 3D model of me around and I’d still roll my eyes and sigh.
Sonic is headed into the mighty realm of Arthur to alleviate the curse that has fallen upon it. Sega’s “Storybook series” continues from Sonic and the Secret Rings with Sonic and the Black Knight. Remember? it’s the one where Sonic holds a sword and you use your Wii-mote to slice and dice bad guys. Looking at this trailer, the in game stuff looks fairly good, but it might be a little tough to sell the premise of the blue hedgehog saving Arthur’s kingdom. We’ll just have to wait and see.
