You Will Remember The Sonic Chronicles Story ‘For A While’

10:20PM September 3, 2008 | Brian Ashcraft

Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic developer BioWare is churning out RPG Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for SEGA. A Sonic RPG? Nothanks.jpg. But a BioWare Sonic RPG? Okay, we’re at least receptive. When vaguely talking plot, the game’s art director Joel MacMillan said:

I think this is obviously best left for the audience’s first playthrough to find out. I will say that the overall story is broken up into two Acts, the first taking place in a very familiar Sonic World, and the second branching out into something we haven’t seen yet, something a little darker (not just visually). I’m confident that what has been done with the story in Sonic Chronicles will be something that fans will remember for a while, and will hopefully be expanded in the future.

Sonic fans remember a lot that has happened to that blue hedgehog in the last few years, none of it good. Break the trend, BioWare, do it. Not for your own sake or SEGA’s sake, but Sonic’s.

Sega’s GC Line Up – Sonic, Samba, And Surprises

2:40AM August 15, 2008 | Mike Fahey

Sega has just announced their line up for Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig, Germany next week, with Sonic the Hedgehog and the public debut of Samba De Amigo at the forefront of their presentation, though both could be upstaged by the super-secret world premier hinted at in Headstrong’s pre-convention postcard. Along with the world premier of a new title, Sega will be parading about Sonic in both Unleashed and Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood flavours, with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games thrown in for good measure. Rounding out their booth presence will be the game of the TV show Dinosaur King, and Gas Powered Games’ Space Siege.

The company’s presence in the Business Centre closely mirrors that of E3, with Alpha Protocol, the new RTS Stormrise, and PlatinumGames titles Bayonetta and MadWorld on display, along with Empire: Total War, Golden Axe, and Valkyria Chronicles. Between the titles we know about and the one we hope we know about, it should be a very exciting GC for Sega indeed.

Sonic Chronicles Trailer Maintains High Hopes

5:20AM August 2, 2008 | Mike Fahey

While it is still extremely strange to see a trailer for a Sonic the Hedgehog game with the words, “From the creators of Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” in it, I can’t help but have extremely high hopes for BioWare’s upcoming Sonic RPG, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Between the action in this trailer and Crecente’s hands-on back in May, I’ve seen and heard nothing but good things about the game. Perhaps Sega has finally found the key to making a good Sonic game – letting someone else do it.

Movie Voice Guy Does Sonic Chronicles

7:40AM June 5, 2008 | Michael McWhertor

newVideoPlayer("SCDB_Sizzle_Trlr_H264.flv", 506, 362,""); This Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood trailer one of those clips that marketing types refer to as a “sizzle” promo. That means that it’s light on gameplay, but heavy on things like drama and Movie Voice Guy-style narration. We really wish he’d said “Sonic and his shitty friends” in his trademark gravely boom, but we don’t write the checks over at Sega.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Hands-On

2:00AM May 17, 2008 | Brian Crecente

My first chance to play around with Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood left me more than a little impressed.

While we didn’t get a walk through of the game’s storyline, we were given a chance to mess around with a chunk of the game.

The DS title shows the action of the game on the bottom, touch screen, while the top screen is taken up by a large colorful map of the section of the world you are currently exploring.

The game has you playing a team of Sonic characters, selected among 11 playable in the game.

Typically while playing only one of your team is shown on the screen and controllable, but you can switch between them by tapping on their icons. Each character has different abilities, which can be used by tapping icons that pop up at times while wandering the map.

Nintendo Power Reveals Sonic Chronicles, BioWare’s Hedgehog RPG

3:40PM January 12, 2008 | Kotaku US Edition

The latest issue of Nintendo Power features a cover story and 7-page feature on BioWare’s role playing game for the Nintendo DS that stars Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Titled Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the portable RPG is said to be a stylus-controlled affair a la The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass by NeoGAF member giggas, who already has a copy of the mag and is responsible for the scan of the cover.

According to details from the newest issue of Nintendo Power, the game has a hand-drawn watercolor style. Each member in your party—which can total four of the eleven available characters—will have special abilities (we’re betting the farm on Sonic being fast). Battles are turn-based and attacks are said to follow an Elite Beat Agents model.
