Star Trek Online Revealed! Um, In New Game Informer

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:40 PM on September 16, 2008

Not here, sadly. We don't have magazine covers to bargain with, you know. But Game Informer, the print kings of the exclusive do, and they have a 10-page blow-out on Cryptic's Star Trek Online. With no Star Trek TV show to rally behind and a feature film that feels light years away, the possibility of commanding our own starship — or perhaps making Sumarian Sunsets in the ship's mess hall — is appealing even to me. And I loathe MMOs.

The October ish of Game Informer should be deployed by shuttle to newsstands any minute now, if you're interested in boldly going wherever $14.99 a month will take you. Perhaps more interesting is the "What If? starring Assassins' Creed's Patrice Desilets" feature, because we assume it highlights alternate facial hair choices for the Ubisoft developer.

Cryptic Reveals More Trek Online Details Via FAQ

Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 8:20 AM on August 13, 2008

Clearly, when Star Trek Online was announced, it was going to be a tough sell to the really die-hard fans.

No matter how accurately those Type II phasers were modelled, someone was always going to point out that the comms badges were slightly out of proportion or that the Bolians' skin is more of a duck-egg blue rather than the tourquoise the idiot developers went for.

To try and clear up some of the fans questions on issues as diverse as Pricing, PvP and Travel Times, Cryptic has released a comprehensive FAQ for the game.

Hit the jump for a selection of Q's that have been A'd F.

Boldly Go ...

Posted by Owen Good at 10:50 AM on August 11, 2008

You know, even for a casual fan, this Star Trek Online trailer pushes all of the right buttons. "Space, the final frontier ..". The opening notes. The old school sound effects. The new school vessels. And finally, the inimitable pan to the warp-out sequence. It's easy to imagine throngs standing to applaud at multiple intervals at today's unveiling of the game -- with Spock on hand -- in Las Vegas. Well done, Cryptic. Engage.

Rumour: Job Listing Outs 'Star Trek Online' MMO?

Posted by Owen Good at 2:00 AM on July 28, 2008

There's about 15 hours left on a clock at Cryptic Studios' homepage, but an advertisement in the Game Career e-newsletter may have outed what the countdown is for. "Cryptic Studios, a leading independent developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online games, including the upcoming Champions Online and Star Trek Online", reads the ad (large size after the jump).

Star Trek: The Next Rock Band

Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:30 AM on April 16, 2008

Devoted reader Ryan, also known as King Cutch the First: Sovereign of the Pumpkin Empire, for some reason felt the need to mention that he and his friends are huge Star Trek geeks when he submitted this video of the all Star Trek: The Next Generation Rock Band, The Ready Room. Just a bit obvious there Ryan, but it's okay. The fact that your fiancee built the characters proves that you'll do just fine in life. This is actually very nicely done, and it may have just rekindled a secret crush from my past. Wesley's mum has got it goin' on. Rawr.

Star Trek MMO Going "More Casual"

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 4:44 PM on November 27, 2007

star_trek_mmo.jpgPerpetual Entertainment's new purse-string holders haven't only shaken up (read: cancelled) development on Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising, they've got their dirty fingers in Star Trek Online, reports Shacknews. The results? They're a bit expectations-lowering. According to Shacknews' anonymous internal source, Star Trek Online is going in a new, "more casual" direction, a move that doesn't seem to be sitting well with some of Perpetual's employees, and one that drops monthly subscriptions for an in-game item buying model.

Little has actually been shown of Star Trek Online, but development resources were shifted from Gods & Heroes to the game and the developer's MMO platform according to Executive Producer Chris McKibbin. Further details on the dev's financial situation at the link.

Star Trek: Conquest Trailer

I was left unsatisfied by Star Trek: Legacy, but I'm willing to give Bethesda another chance with Conquest. The mixture of MechCommander-style arcade action with turn-based strategy could be just the ticket. As to where this ticket will take us is yet to be determined.
