Those unscrupulous sorts pirating the recent PC release of Starbreeze’s Syndicate have found a little surprise buried inside the release. And it’s not some kind of punishment or DRM.
No Syndicate for Australia. That means you should just pirate the crap out of it, right? Stick it to those evil developers who hate your guts and are not at all trying to make a living or feed their families. They deserve it, after all?
It’s become a familiar story: studio is employed to make a game, studio finishes game, studio shrinks upon game’s completion. This is what has happened over in Sweden where Starbreeze, the studio behind the new Syndicate game, has lost 25 jobs.
The controversially re-booted Syndicate will be sporting co-op play, shown off in this shiny cyberpunk trailer. We’ve got seeing-through-walls vision power, enemy-tracking bullets and some kind of area-effect blast. Also: Everyone wears trenchcoats. Except the rent-a-soldiers, of course.
This new trailer for Starbreeze’s upcoming Syndicate shooter tries to show the common ground between the 1993 original and this new reboot.
This Syndicate clip runs for 11:06. Which is enough time to show you one mission from the upcoming shooter. It’s also 11:06 of you walking around just…holding a gun.
Anytime I post footage of a game recorded via a camera, God kills a kitten. So, believe me, I thought long and hard about whether I should even post this footage of Syndicate, captured on a hand held camera – but the people must see this, I thought. Sorry little kitteh, your sacrifice was not in vain…
Same cool concept, same cool aesthetic, very tired genre. I’m a shooter fan, a HUGE shooter fan, but sometimes it would be nice if when a storied, beloved franchise gets a reboot it didn’t turn up as a shooter, or an action shooter, or an RPG shooter, or a fill-in-the-blank shooter.
