Udon Street Fighter Comics Coming To DVD

Those of you who missed Udon's excellent Street Fighter series in comic book form have another chance to catch the series next February as Eagle One Media and Capcom team up to present a DVD version of the comic in animated form. Street Fighter: Round One - FIGHT!, due out February 9th, just in time for the release of Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li on February 27 - not only reprints issues 0-6 of the Udon series, it animates the comic, adding movement, music, special-effects, and even voice overs to the comic book dialogue If you ask me it's a complete and utter bastardization of the comic book as an art form, but that's just the sort of thing you'd expect from a big old comic book geek like myself.

Street Fighter IV Comes Out When Street Fighter: The Movie Does

When's Street Fighter IV hitting arcades? Now! When's it hitting home consoles? Uh...eh...no idea. Oh, wait! We do have an idea. SF movie producer Patrick Aiello says it'll be March 2009. Which is the same time the upcoming Street Fighter movie - The Legend of Chun-Li - is due for release. Sure, they have little/nothing to do with each other (fairly sure Kristin Kreuk's not hiding anything downstairs, for starters), but they're both called Street Fighter, so the guys in marketing probably figure it can't hurt.

Get Your Capcom-Branded...iPods?

Odd. But different! Capcom have teamed up with Etchstar, a - would you believe it - etching company, to offer an etching service for your shiny, metallic objects. Ever wanted a Sagat iPod? You got it. A set of Cammy dog tags? You got it. A Leon Kennedy boiler plate? You can...probably get it. No word on pricing for this stuff, but since it's custom-made, you may as well brace yourself for "expensive".

Street Fighter Movie Writer Takes Things VERY Seriously

Come on. Admit it. You love it to death, sure, but Street Fighter is absolutely ridiculous. Electrified Brazilian jungle mutants? Elastic-limbed Indian yoga masters who can breathe fire? It's comic book stuff. And as rubbish as the 90's live-action movie was, at least it knew that much. But the new Street Fighter movie? The one being written by Justin Marks? Don't expect ridiculosity. Expect serious business. Because Marks takes his Street Fighter very, very seriously.

I grew up with the 'Street Fighter' games. I don't see them as cheesy or funny, but as serious characters that deserve to be explored in their own right.

Which explains, we guess, why the movie's based on the exploits of Chun Li and not the exploits of a large Russian man who wrestles bears in his underwear.

Killer Soul Kalibur Fighter Brawl-gasm

One of the first Soulcalibur IV user created creations we were sent, Solid Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2 felt like the first drop in the bucket of recreated classic characters. Here's a torrent of them: Mario and Link; Sub Zero, Shao Kahn, Scorpion, and Liu Kang from Mortal Kombat; B. Orchid and TJ Combo from Killer Instinct; Blanka and Chun-Li from Street Fighter. They're all in here. There's even a few guest appearances from folks like Dr. Doom and Thor from the pages of Marvel Comics.

Don't ask us to explain the Skee-Lo soundtrack, though. We just work here. Thanks to Jeremy for the clip tip via Arcade Junkies.

Ono: No Console Specific Fighters In Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono fielded questions from the Street Fighter fanbase at Comic-Con this weekend at the inappropriately named "Making of Street Fighter IV" panel. While the majority of the questions and answers were gameplay focused or simply unanswerable, Ono did drop some good news — the console release of the fighter won't follow in the footsteps of Soulcaliburs II and IV.

That means it won't be coming home with console-exclusive fighters a la Yoda and Darth Vader (or Link, Spawn and Heihachi). Instead, each version is planned to include the same roster, the arcade line-up plus whatever new additions the SFIV team sees fit. We have a fairly good idea that Cammy is one of those new additions, but hope we'll get much more than just her.

Any requests?

Darkstalkers, Street Fighter Get Pop Culture (Sticker) Shock

Sideshow Toys always brings some serious sculpts to Comic-Con, catering to fans of horror, sci-fi and, of course, video games. The Pop Culture Shock label has a few Capcom licenced products for the second half of the year and beyond, including an excellent Morrigan and Cammy, each in two styles, plus a very sweet looking Vega.

Heads up, though. Unless you're willing to part with about $US 300 American for one of these mixed media ladies, you may not want to even look.

Comic-Con Cosplays Street Fighter, Final Fight... And Captain Commando?!

Capcom held a Street Fighter cosplay contest at its Comic-Con booth today, but things didn't quite go as planned. A good portion of the contestants decided to reach outside the Street Fighter universe to get their dress-up on, including a solid Captain Commando, multiple S.T.A.R.S. team members and folks better known for their appearances in the Final Fight series.

Check out the handmade efforts in our gallery below and vote on your choice for the winner. Sadly, we didn't get a proper, full view shot of the Alpha version of Chun-Li, because she totally nailed the thighs.
