A video game has broken street date! Wow, it is like this has never happened before. I mean, stores literally never sell any video games before the day they are meant to sell them, right? So imagine the outrage we felt when a Kotaku reader sent in this receipt!
We’ve just gotten word that Skyrim has now officially broken street date — both GAME and EB have announced through their social media channels that the game is now on sale at all stores.
So Uncharted has broken street date — technically. We’ve been on the phone with two Target store clerks who have confirmed that they have received stock and have sold multiple copies of the game a day ahead of street date. The Target in Bourke Street in Melbourne has begun selling early, as has the Mulgrave Store. All specialist retailers, however, are sticking rigidly to the date.
A few Kotaku readers have tipped us off to EB Games selling Dead Island a day early. The game’s official release date is September 9, but a number of posts have gone up on EB’s Facebook page from people who have seen the game on sale today.
Sorry to disappoint the folks salivating over the possibility of a L.A. Noire street break – but so far it has not happened, and most likely will not happen. There has been an image circulating around the web, via tumbler, that shows a receipt, from Game Traders in Chadstone – but we’ve called the store and while they admit to selling one copy, they’ve called it a “mistake” and have removed all other copies of the game from shelves.
