I (and everyone else on the planet basically) loved the music to Bastion. Now, SuperGiant is selling sheet music for four of the songs from the game.
I don’t understand gardening, but my wife loves it. We live 200 metres from a Woolworths, so I’d prefer to just go and buy some tomatoes, but different strokes for different folks, am I right? At GDC, the creators of Bastion revealed that early iterations of the game actually had, believe it or not, a gardening feature.
If you missed the New York Video Game Critics Circle Awards, here’s your chance to see a whole bunch of videos from last Thursday’s event, including a live rendition of Bastion‘s “Setting Sail, Coming Home” performed by songwriter Darren Korb and singer Ashley Barrett.
Bastion snuck up on me — I had heard a lot of friends and fellow critics hyping it after seeing it at PAX East and GDC, but I hadn’t actually played it until it was released. For the first hour or so, I wasn’t sold, but as the story snowballed and the levels stretched out, I fell increasingly under its spell.
There were plenty of lovely things about Bastion, but one of its best features was its soundtrack. The combination of composer Darren Korb’s groovy tabla-fuelled psychedelia and narrator Logan Cunningham’s throaty growl gave the game much of its unique, desolate charm.
Bastion is a brand-new game out on Xbox Live Arcade this week. I’ve been playing it in advance of release for a few days and have been loving it. I’m pretty sure it’s very good, but I’m also pretty sure that this is the kind of game people like me who grew up playing the Super Nintendo are pre-disposed to like.
Bastion is one damn pretty-looking game. Fortunately, it’s also one damn fun game. The action role-playing game hits Xbox Live Arcade next week for 1200 Microsoft Points and PC later this year.
