Tell Us, Dammit!

Reading the very strong opinions that people have about the ending of Mass Effect 3 has been… interesting. So now we’d like to get your opinion on something. [Note: Some of the comments in this post contain spoilers for Mass Effect 3]

Tell Us Dammit: Midnight Launch Edition

Kotaku AU

Midnight launches; I used to be a sucker for them — The atmosphere, the queuing, the getting of the supremely hyped game. But then I noticed something: I would always go home and go straight to sleep. Not once did I stay up into the wee hours of the morning playing the game I queued for, which got me to thinking: why did I go to the midnight launch in the first place?

The above video is the best thing I’ve ever, ever seen in the last 24 hours. But it got me to thinking — of all the wins you’ve had while gaming, which one got you the most excited?

Tell Us Dammit: Anyone Getting A Vita?

Kotaku AU

Alright, I’ve just received the Kotaku office Vita, and I’m posting in between charging this bad boy up. The PlayStation Vita comes out in Australia today — anyone here planning on getting one?

I don’t normally like making ‘Tell Us Dammit’ specific to one game or one series, but while I was sick yesterday I spent the whole day playing Metal Gear Solid 3. It got me to thinking about all those incredible/confusing moments I’ve had playing the Metal Gear Solid series — what are some of your favourites? Anything you completely hated?

Mark is as sick as a dog today (I swear the bacon milkshake had nothing to do with it) and has vowed to spend the whole day sleeping. Given his uber-pale and rash-covered state yesterday, I actually believe him. But I suspect that many Kotaku readers faced with a day off work sick would still find themselves drawn to their console. And that got me wondering — what games do you want to play when you’re sick enough to not be at work, but not so sick you just want to lie around moaning like a Scottish zombie?

It seems as though it’s been a while since I’ve had that feeling, the feeling when you play a game for the first time and you’re completely blown away, either by the mechanics or the visuals. For me at least, that ‘wow’ factor tends to occur closer to the start of console generations. What are some of your ‘wow’ moments in gaming?

I’m still playing through Skyward Sword (that game is way longer than it should be) and I’ve actually been stuck a handful of times. At one point I was stuck for a good hour. Which is quite shameful. It got me thinking about all those times in video games when I was just completely puzzled for hours, sometimes days.

I’ve been on a mental health kick recently. Partly that’s been spurred on by me getting into climbing, and partly by the fact that Kotaku’s new Associate Editor Tracey Lien has basically become my unofficial nutritionist. I’ve really enjoyed getting back into sport, so it got me wondering — does anyone here take part in any regular sports stuff? Anyone play football, go running, anything?

My name is Mark Serrels and I hate Olives. The last two weeks, for some ungodly reason I have been eating one of these ‘things’ a day in an attempt to force myself to like them. It’s just a little experiment. But yesterday I was asked a very interesting question: what is the gaming equivalent of olives to me? A genre or a series that others seem to love, but I can’t stand. Today, I want to ask you guys the same question.
