Fuzzyeyes’ Edge of Twilight Hands On at TGS

Kotaku AU

Australian developer Fuzzyeyes took their upcoming steampunk action adventure title Edge of Twilight to Tokyo Game Show, and the team at Destructoid have delivered a detailed write up of their hands on impressions. Always keen to shed light on the creations of local developers, so I thought we should link it up. Some interesting mechanics in there, particularly a day/night system that changes the way the lead character plays. The game is expected next year, and for first impressions this preview has convinced me to keep an ear out for more updates.

Street Fighter IV Getting Animated For Your Viewing Pleasure

Those brushstroke heavy Street Fighter IV trailers are going to get turned into an anime that will fill in the gaps between Street Fighter II and its spiritual sequel Street Fighter IV. Producer Yoshinori Ono stated at TGS that the new animated feature will run between 50 and 60 minutes and hopes to tie the flick with the game’s home console release. The company that churned out the original clips, Studio 4C, is working on the full-length version. The three minute trailer shown at TGS showed Cammy making her way through a wooded area with some troops, Ryu discovering his dark side, Sakura and Chun-Li battling goons, and Ryu and Crimson Viper fighting.

Yakuza 3 Lady Girls Spotted With Brown Man

And we’re back with more thrilling female cameo info about Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (aka Yakuza 3)! SEGA announced that fashion model Ayana Tsubaki would be appearing in-game as an oil massage therapist, joining seven models from Japanese magazine Koakuma Ageha. They talk it up as in-game nightclub hostesses. At SEGA’s Tokyo Game Show booth, three of them showed up, including Sayaka Araki, Shizuka Muto and Osaka-native Rina Sakurai who I interviewed for the arcade book I wrote. She’s a really nice, smart person. About appearing in-game, Sakurina said it was really strange for her to speak the Tokyo dialect.

Faux Liveblogging Namco Bandai’s Pre-TGS Presser

Ah, beautiful scenic Shinagawa in Tokyo. We’ve touched down in Namco Bandai’s gianormous corporate headquarters and have been shuffled into a largish theatre for a pre-TGS press conference — a largish theatre that’s actually underneath a waterfall inside NBG’s building. Since this presser is embargoed until tomorrow, we’ll be liveblogging it and then posting it, well, tomorrow. Which is today. Whatever.

Vanillaware’s Ninja RPG is Wii-Exclusive for North America

Marvelous and XSEED are bringing Vanillaware’s Wii-exclusive ninja RPG to North America in 2009, and calling it Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Joystiq mentions that this is the second title coming out of a co-publishing deal signed in May, the first being Valhalla Knights 2 for the PSP.

The game is a 2D side-scroller featuring hand-drawn art, probably in the mode of Vanillaware’s Odin Sphere. It will be shown at Tokyo Game Show 08, according to Marvelous’ lineup, as Oboro Muramasa Youtouden

Muramasa: The Demon Blade is an action RPG and according to its news release, it’s set in Genroku-era Japan. Players will inhabit the lives of ninja warriors in a storyline involving a set of cursed “Demon Blades,” powerful weapons that exact a terrible price on those who use them. In this case, the blades also summon evil spirits and powerful foes from the netherworld, providing you with your adversaries and the game’s world with its existential crisis.

What’s Sega Bringing To TGS?

TGS is soon! Very, very soon. October 9-12, to be exact, and we’ll be there from October 6 onwards! So get excited, will you? Look, Sega will be there, and they’ll be showing a ton of stuff, big difference between this year and last year being they’re showing a lot of stuff that’s good. Like Yakuza 3 and Bayonetta on the PS3. And Sonic Unleashed. And some awful-looking PC MMO thing. And so damn many RPGs on the handheld systems that I’m not even going to bother highlighting them here. You’ll find them – and everything else on show (and yes, we know, Madworld isn’t there) – after the jump.
