Square Enix has finally dated Dragon Quest IX. The Level 5 developed DS title will get its Japan release in March 2009. According to Square Enix, the release date is given as “March 2009″, and the title has not yet been priced or rated. This comes as apparently Square Enix president Yoichi Wada recently stated that the game would be going on sale “during the New Year’s period”. Dragon Quest IX was originally announced in late 2006.
The title will not be playable at next week’s Tokyo Game Show.
Tokyo Game Show kicks off next week and Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahahi’s next effort, Nobi Nobi Boy, will be there. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 3 exclusive is slated to be shown in video form only. Hopefully that video will be more informative about the gameplay mechanics of Nobi Nobi Boy than Takahashi’s previous demonstrations of the game. Namco Bandai lists the release date as still “undecided.”

We know what Square Enix is bringing to this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The Japanese publisher is armed with some big guns — Final Fantasy XIII, Dragon Quest IX and Star Ocean: The Last Hope — one of which will actually be playable. But what about its little subsidiary, Taito? It makes games too!
While Taito’s offerings aren’t the stuff of attention grabbing headlines and long queues, it has a few tricks up its sleeve; Gardening Mama for the Nintendo DS for one, giving “Mama” something to occupy her time between meals in Cooking Mama 2 for the Wii. There’s also Space Puzzle Bobble, which you’ll find me hunched over at the Makuhari Messe this year.
Get excited… on a very small scale.

To get all of the Tokyo Game Show in a tizzy for SEGA/Platinum Games DS title Infinite Space, animation studios GONZO and Production I.G. have been roped into to make animated shorts. GONZO is known for its animated version of Strike Witches while Production I.G. is best known for Ghost in the Shell. The first of these collaborations will show at TGS on October 9th. After that, they’ll be available on the game’s website.

Leaked scans from this Friday’s Famitsu has a big feature on Wii title Monster Hunter 3: tri. While the game isn’t yet dated, it will be playable at TGS and it does feature new, yet unnamed monsters. The game, like its PSP predecessors, looks poised to be a big hit for Capcom in Japan. Wonder about elsewhere…

With TGS around the corner, game publishers are releasing their list of Tokyo Game Show titles. Ditto for Marvelous Entertainment, which has put out a Wii-heavy showing. Sim RPG Little King’s Story is noticeably absent in playable form — though there will be a trailer! Here’s the rundown:
Square Enix has announced its Tokyo Game Show plans. The company will be showing lots of its big titles — like Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Dragon Quest IX. But what will simply be in trailer form and what will be playable on the show floor?
That, after the jump as well as the slated release info for Square Enix’s big announced titles.
