Sierra Entertainment is looking to give TimeShift players a boost today as they announce the availability of the Futures-Past Multiplayer Map Pack on Xbox Live today. The pack contains five new maps playable in any of the games myriad multiplayer modes, from the mundane deathmatch to the relatively entertaining King of Time mode. The pack will cost you absolutely nothing to download, as Sierra is most likely desperately trying to drum up interest for the game, a solid title that had the misfortune of being delayed to the point where they had to release it between Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, effectively ensuring that the multiplayer audience for the title would be far too busy doing other, more important things. It’s ironic how horribly time has treated TimeShift. I’m just glad they didn’t release this map pack within weeks of another blockbuster game with amazing multiplayer was released. Oh wait.

True, Valve has nothing to worry about and neither does Infinity Ward, but the temporal mechanics of pausing and reversing time energised my flux capacitor (what, you don’t have one)?

Sierra sends word today that the fourth dimension-bending FPS will be coming to Sony’s Playstation 3 console on December 6. That’s an Australian date folks, so if you’re Xbox 360 and PC deprived, and this title has had you polishing your DeLorean several times a day, it can be yours in a week’s time. And it comes free with a $99.95 price tag!

Release after the jump.

SYDNEY – November 26, 2007 – Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, announced that TimeShift™ will be available nationwide for the PlayStation®3 on the 6th December 2007.

Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Sierra Entertainment, TimeShiftâ„¢, allows players to control time and use it as the ultimate weapon in a fierce battle against the neo-fascist regime of Dr. Krone. In TimeShiftâ„¢, the story revolves around a highly respected physicist with a mysterious past. When your colleague Dr. Krone goes rogue and uses an experimental time-manipulating suit to create an alternate time stream where he is a grim dictator in a dystopian alternate reality, players must chase after him and use time to overthrow his rule. Armed with similar, yet less stable time-bending suit, players have the ability to slow, stop and reverse the flow of time, while being able to freely interact with the environment and enemies, a feat never before accomplished in video games.

Featuring ground-breaking artificial intelligence, powerfully realistic graphics and deeply immersive sound and story, TimeShiftâ„¢ is proving to be one of the first truly next-gen games.

With a comprehensive online 16-player multiplayer mode, featuring time controlling “chrono” grenades, 14 different maps and over 40 different customizable features, TimeShift™, was developed for elite multiplayer gamers by drawing inspirations from the best FPS’s and adapting itself to the players’ unique style by incorporating highly customisable gameplay modifiers resulting in a frenetic and competitive multiplayer experience every game.

The TimeShift™ video game has an OFLC “MA 15+” Mature Accompanied rating and will be available for recommended retail price of $99.95. For more information, please visit the game’s official Web site at www.TimeShiftgame.com/au

Sierra has announced that a multiplayer demo of their time-twisting title will be up on Xbox Live tomorrow.

I’ve tooled around a bit with TimeShift’s multiplayer, though I have to say I was less than impressed. The gameplay is certainly solid, but with the much more robust multiplayer of Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 readily available it just couldn’t keep my interest. Had they released the game a year ago it would have been awesome, but TimeShift just had ironically bad timing. Don’t take my word for it though – download the demo tomorrow and see for yourself.

TIMESHIFTâ„¢ XBOX360 MULTIPLAYER DEMO AVAILABLE ON MARKETPLACE ON 11/14

Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, announced today that a multiplayer demo for TimeShift will be available via Xbox Live download.

Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Sierra Entertainment, TimeShift is a first person shooter (FPS) video game that allows players to master the flow of time, to become the ultimate weapon in war-torn environments. Armed with the experimental time-manipulating Beta Suit and a huge arsenal of weaponry and vehicles, players have the ability to slow, stop and reverse the flow of time, allowing them to control several aspects of each battle sequence. Intuitive time controls give the player the ultimate advantage in avoiding attacks, correcting mistakes and outsmarting the enemy.

With a comprehensive online 16-player multiplayer mode, featuring time grenades, 14 different maps and over 40 different features, TimeShift gears itself to the players’ unique style of gameplay by allowing matches to be completely customizable. Players can battle it out in a tight, well-balanced multiplayer experience that implements several aspects of the time-manipulating gameplay element found in the single-player campaign.

TimeShift has had a particularly tumultuous development cycle. While it stayed firmly in the hands of Will Rock creator Saber Entertainment, it switched publishers late last year from Atari to Sierra. Sierra wasn’t happy with the state of the game, and it was pushed back to this year.

Would the game have been fine had it been released when Atari still had it? We’ll never know. What we do know is that it’s out now, and Sierra’s happy enough with it to fire it off into the wild lands of Consumerdom.

Press release after the jump.

UPDATE: RRPs in the house: $99.95 for 360 and PS3 (when it’s out), and $69.95 for PC.

SYDNEY – November 01, 2007 – Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, announced that the next generation of first-person shooters, TimeShift™, is officially available today at retail stores nationwide for the PC and Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system.
“We are very excited to ship this highly anticipated title to retail,” said Colin Brown, Regional General Manager for Vivendi Games in Asia Pacific. “Players are going to see effects in this game unlike anything have seen before. The ability to control time is a very unique feature, which adds another dimension to the gameplay in both the immersive single and incredible multiplayer modes .”

TimeShift, which was originally due for release in 1896 (read: 2005) and has been through 117 platforms (read: 5), might just be on the brink of completion. Sierra have announced that the 360 and PC versions of the game will be out on October 30, with the PS3 version due along in December. Take this news with a grain or two of the finest salt, of course (hey, it’s TimeShift), but if you’re feeling as optimistic as I am today they might just be telling the truth! Might be. No promises, though.
