Tom Clancy Games Prepare To Tactically Engage The Nintendo Wii

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 3:30 PM on September 18, 2008

Ubisoft's current lineup on the Wii is...regrettable. Could do with a few more "proper" games. Like the Tom Clancy ones, most of those are pretty decent. Here's what Ubisoft boss, the delightfully-named Yves Guillemot, has to say on the matter:

Tom Clancy will appear [on the Wii] at one point. We need to make sure they [look good]. We have engines that were created for the next-generation consoles. We had to re-engineer a certain number of engines to be sure we could use the quality of the machine. Even without the [high-end] graphics, the experience can still be very interesting. ... To make sure we can create good enough products [on Wii] or products better than Nintendo's takes time. That's why you don't see many products, but you will see more and more in the future.

Yves, screw the new games, just re-release the GameCube version of Chaos Theory (with MP intact), we'll forgive the wait.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Delayed

Posted by Leigh Alexander at 8:20 AM on July 31, 2008

How quickly "Spring 2008" becomes "Q1 2009." Ubisoft is the next up to confess it's shunted a title out of its fall lineup into next year, after we reported a similar delay for Namco-Bandai's Afro Samurai.

This time, it's Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X, according to CVG, which sails right past Spring 2008 to land anywhere between January and March of next year. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway has been bumped forward a bit to September as well, presumably to fill in the gap.

Ubi Demoer: HAWX Will Respond to Voice Command

Posted by Owen Good at 6:00 AM on June 2, 2008

Eurogamer reports back from Ubidays 08 that a demonstrator let slip word that voice commands will be able to order around your fellow fighter pilots in Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

"Demonstrator Andrei Costin spilled the beans at the recent UbiDays event in Paris, but avoided elaborating on exactly how it will all work; we expect it will be a blend of EndWar and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter," writes Eurogamer.

Ubisoft Starts With GRAW Teasing

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 1:30 PM on March 29, 2008

Visitors to the official Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell and EndWar web sites may have notice something unusual today—a Flash overlay that features smoldering, bullet-ridden debris that links to the official Ghost Recon web site. There, a similar Flash overlay shows a smoking black box or dossier case, then a series of mysterious videos, some of which are playable, some still locked down. The video and audio files are said to come from a recovered MACSAT or Multiple Access Commercial Satellite.

Ubisoft Considering Tom Clancy MMO

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:00 PM on March 21, 2008

Following the news that Ubisoft has secured the rights to the Tom Clancy name, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed in a follow up conference call plans to look into creating an MMO using the Tom Clancy name. No word on which Tom Clancy brand would be involved or what sort of gameplay would be involved, but Guillemot did mention the possible cost of such a venture - upwards of $50 million. That's quite a chunk of change to spend on creating a persistent world filled with people hiding behind things and shooting each other. I cannot even begin to imagine how such a thing would work...unless perhaps they went with a game model similar to PlanetSide, with instanced combat zones for players to team up and take on. It would certainly be a fresh take on the MMO sector, one way or the other. Intriguing. We'll keep you posted.

Ubisoft Acquires Tom Clancy Name

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 6:40 AM on March 21, 2008

Ubisoft has announced today that they have acquired the intellectual property rights to the name Tom Clancy. This acquisition will include video games, related books and movies and merchandise.

Sounds like someone is ready to slap the good ole' Tom Clancy name on everything in sight. I wonder where we will see it end up? Tom Clancy's Assassin's Creed 2, Tom Clancy's Kane and Lynch 2, Tom Clancy's Enchanted Arms 2 all sound like fine titles to me plus think of all the extra money that name alone will rake in!

Endwar Riflemen Profiled

Posted by Mike Fahey at 8:00 AM on December 1, 2007

endwarrifelemane.jpgMany real-time strategy games give you a basic back story to why the factions are fighting and then let you get right to it. Not Tom Clancy's EndWar. Each unit has their own background information and history, as evidenced by the information overload dropped by Ubisoft on just one unit of each of the game's three factions. Even the riflemen - sure to be one of the lowliest of infantry units in the voice-controlled RTS - score a page of information each. After a gallery of renders and screenshots and the ever pleasant jump, you'll find profiles on the riflemen units for the Russian Spetsnaz Guard Brigade, the European Enforcers Corps, the United States' Joint Strike Force. Nice to see this level of detail being to applied where we would have surely just accepted "These are guys with rifles."
