Free Realms Trading Card Game Gets Real

12:40AM Mike Fahey | Sony Online Entertainment has teamed with trading card masters Topps to bring the Free Realms digital trading card game into the physical world. Topps will be launching the physical version of the card game included with SOE’s family-friendly MMORPG this Spring with a Passport to Free Realms Starter Pack bursting with in-game goodies, along with 11-card boosters, each containing a card redeemable for in-game items. “Our online trading card games have been hugely successful, and the chance to take our digital trading cards into the physical world with an industry leader like Topps is a fantastic opportunity for us as a company,” said John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment. Could this mean a physical version of the Everquest card-game Legends of Norrath won’t be far behind? Hit the jump for the full press release, and the link some rather fanciful card artwork. More »

Topps Launches Candy Coated Speed Racer Web Game

5:00AM Flynn De Marco | Topps, the purveyors of candy treats have just launched a little racing web based game to help promote the upcoming Speed Racer Movie, Speed Racer Candy Tracks The game is exactly what you’d expect from the title, a racing game with a Topps candy tie in. The tie in coming from a massive onslaught of in game advertising for all of their products from Bazooka gum to Ring Pops. The tracks may be pink and candy coated but this Flash game already seems ten times more interesting than the bore fest that is Speed Racer the Video Game. I’m sorry, but having to tack on “the Video Game” at the end automatically puts it on my “don’t buy list”. Topps’ Speed Racer Candy Tracks Game [Topps] More »
