Fun fact: I’m a history graduate, so when a Total War game comes along, I’m normally first in line. Especially when it involves pipes, muskets and rad uniforms, because they remind me not of Napoleon, but of Waterloo. The movie.
Creative Assembly Announced today that Napoleon: Total War, sequel of sorts to the amazing Empire: Total War, will be out next month.
Sad news ahead, PC gamers. Tissues and comfort snacks are advised. According to Sega, the amazing-looking Empire: Total War – which was originally due for release next February – has been delayed.
Creative Assembly – the team behind the Total War series – have told Eurogamer that they’ve not only been talking about a console version of the acclaimed strategy series “a lot over the years”, but that they’d “love to do it”. Coming on the heels of Ensemble’s turn to a console game, then closure, dyed-in-the-wool PC gamers will no doubt be reacting with a mix of rage and rage. Of course, there are plenty of obstacles in their way, limited console lifespans and the complexity of the PC versions the primary two amongst many. As a long-time devotee of the Total War series, I’m hoping this outpouring of intent is harmless, akin to me saying “I’d love to buy a private jet, fill it with plastic balls (ala a ball pit) and order the pilot to make with the barrel rolls”. It’d be awesome, but it’s never going to happen. Dev would “love to do” console Total War [Eurogamer]
The development team behind the excellent Total War RTS series is making the jump to consoles, as Sega announces Stormrise, a console RTS for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Set in a post-apocalyptic future (because pre-apocalyptic is boring), the story of Stormrise revolves around two warring factions, the highly-technical Echelon who survived the apocalypse by hibernating, and the more primitive tribal society of the Sai. The gameplay has you controlling troops from the front line rather than from a lofty position overhead, with the ability to command units not only on the ground, but in the air, across rooftops, and even undeground to achieve their goals.
“The Creative Assembly have proven their general leadership in developing RTS games through the award winning ‘Total War’ series on PC”, commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. “However, Stormrise has been built from the ground up specifically for high def consoles to provide a more intense, frenetic style of game that, coupled with the all new control mechanic, will revolutionise the way RTS games are played.”
This definitely sounds like the type of console RTS I could sink my teeth into. Hit the jump for the second of the two announcement screens.
