So what is Bungie Aerospace?

Well, it’s not much more than a trademark spotted by Attack of the Fanboy while many of us were at GDC. Bungie Aerospace has a tradmark and a fancy new logo, a cyclopian triangle that looks like a distant relative to Bungie’s other mark, the Superintendent.

The recent filing with the USPTO covers general video game related stuff: “Computer game software for personal computers and home video game consoles; Computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones.”

It also touches on the development side of things: “Design and development of computer game software and virtual reality software; Computer software, namely, game engine software for video game development and operation.”

The PlayStation Eye-powered motion control wand, previously known by some as Gem, referred to by others as PlayStation Arc may actually be named PlayStation Move, if a recently filed European trademark is any indication. NeoGAF user gofreak – incidentally, the same dude who dug up the original PlayStation Home logo – found the trademark filing for PlayStation Move, a mark protected against “game controllers” as well as the potential logo seen above.

Funny that that image looks more like an “A” than an “M” though. Who knows which codename is going to stick? Well, we probably will later tonight, when Sony holds its GDC event that’s sure to have mention of the PlayStation Motion Controller. Keep an eye peeled for our liveblog of the event.

Sony has patented a new form of trial or demo for video games that, rather than presenting us with a small piece of a title, gives us the whole thing, then takes bits away as time goes on.

After playing a demo for a certain amount of time, or having completed a set number of turns or actions, the product would begin to gradually remove content, eventually compelling the consumer to buy the game in order to keep playing. The above picture, in which a player’s weapons are downgraded, does a pretty good job of displaying this.

Another scenario is the one below, in which a driving game’s tracks are removed one by one.

It’s… well, it’s a great idea. Provided the means to bypass the degradation routines aren’t easily or commonly broken, it’s a much better way for developers and publishers to let people experience their product than current demo limitations allow.

Of course, it would also mean 10-40GB downloads instead of 1GB ones, but included is the possibility of returning the demo to physical media, so that’s one feasible option.

Konami’s new Gradius Arc trademark, however, is something else.

Or are they related? Siliconera just happened to dig up two recently filed Japanese trademarks, one for PlayStation Arc, the other for Gradius Arc, the second obviously somewhere in Konami’s plans for another game in its venerable side-scrolling shoot ‘em up series. Could it be one of the game’s we’ll be playing while holding Sony’s new PlayStation Eye-powered wand?

While we may not know Konami’s plans for a new Gradius right now, we’re definitely going to hear a lot more about Sony’s motion controller next week at GDC.

Silicon Knights’ psychological horror game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was one of the bright spots in the GameCube library, so Nintendo’s new refiling of the Eternal Darkness trademark warrants at least a modicum of excitement. Or does it?

Nintendo of America re-upped the trademark earlier this week, after cancelling the previous mark in December, leaving Eternal Darkness for dead in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office terms. Does that mean we should expect a new game in the Eternal Darkness property? Maybe, maybe not.

Nintendo recently re-upped another GameCube era title, Luigi’s Mansion, meaning that it may have interest in bringing more games to the New Play Control series for the Wii. If Nintendo doesn’t see the value in retrofitting Wii motion controls onto that particular GameCube game, perhaps it has something else in the works. We certainly wouldn’t turn down a new horror offering for the Wii.

The registration may be nothing more than lingering sanity effects, with Nintendo, Silicon Knights and the United States government messing with our heads. Nintendo has a media summit planned for next week. Perhaps we’ll find some sanity there.

It may be nothing more than the former, as Nintendo already has seven Luigi’s Mansion trademarks—three “live,” four “dead” according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office—so it may just be covering its bases. A few of those Luigi’s Mansion marks expired or were canceled in 2009.

But Luigi’s Mansion may be getting some renewed attention from Nintendo—perhaps in the form of a New Play Control release? The GameCube game’s flashlight controls may be a good fit for a Wii Remote makeover, but we’re not sure if Nintendo’s interested in giving Luigi another shot at a starring role.

Anybody out there a big fan of Luigi’s Mansion and really wants to make a Wii port happen?

Of the four new trademarks filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, it’s only Legend of Kunoichi that gives us a sense of what Sony has planned, something starring a female ninja on some PlayStation platform. And it’s likely not a reference to Sega’s PlayStation 2 sequel to Shinobi, known as Nightshade in the West, Kunoichi in Japan.

Three other titles, Smashbreak, Digi-tiles and Earthshield, sure sound like smaller puzzle or arcade games, the type of content that wouldn’t surprise us if they ultimately turn out to be PSP minis releases. Another option? Smaller games for the PlayStation 3’s motion controller.

The Wii Vitality Sensor may be put to good use with a product known as Wii Relax, which Nintendo registered a trademark for in Europe late last year. It has since done the same in these United States.

In fact, it has done so thrice, which is pretty typical for Nintendo. It loves to protect its trademarks over and over and over again, just in case someone else tries to release a “microphone for consumer video game apparatus, adapted for use with TV receivers only” under the name Wii Relax.

Most of what Nintendo has filed the Wii Relax trademark against is the typical stuff, like “video game software” and “computer game programs”. Others may offer better insight into what Wii Relax will be, should it ever actually come out.

That includes “parts and accessories of consumer video game apparatus, including those with pulse-measuring functions” which would likely be a good indicator that the Wii Vitality Sensor will be used. It also includes “providing inter-connections between handheld game machines with liquid crystal displays via wireless communication”, opening up the door for interaction with the Nintendo DS/i/XL.

Of course, none of that is a guarantee that Wii Relax will actually have any of those capabilities or that Nintendo will even release something named Wii Relax. But they’ve got the trademark covered.

If you’d like to read the full triple trademark, do so at the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Just before 2009 came to a close, the Sony Corporation sought trademark protection for something cloudy, but something likely not Final Fantasy VII related, the service “Cloudsurf”. That’s one of a few “cloud” themed products hinted at by Sony.

Early last year, Sony filed a mark for PS Cloud. Specifically, Sony Computer Entertainment did, the folks responsible for the PlayStation part of the business.

The recent Cloudsurf, however, applies to more than just video games, also applying for the mark against mobile phones, digital cameras, televisions and more. Perhaps this is just a more marketable name for that broader PlayStation Network that Sony has been hinting at for some time. It’s likely not portending the availability of echochrome levels anywhere and everywhere.

Sony also registered trademarks for video game related things under the name voyAgent, but we’ll leave the speculation on that one up to you.

Translation: bringing games to YouTube. Interesting.

The application was filed in February, but only published this month. While it’s heavy on fluff, the gist of the patent is that Google would like to be able to alter existing YouTube videos in order to create “interactive games” within the service.

There are many possibilities as to what this would leave us with; we could get custom vids created with games in mind, we could get “choose your own adventure” deals, we could get something… else that I just can’t wrap my head around at this moment.
