Tragnarion Nabs Comic Book Talent For Doodle Hex Sequel

Of all the things I missed at the Games Convention at Leipzig, none stung so much as Tragnarion Studios’ Doodle Hex, a DS game I’ve been obsessing over on and off for the better part of a year now. I actually saw the game for sale at GameStop, but didn’t pick it up, not knowing they were still looking for a U.S. publisher. So while I desperately await news of a North American release, Tragnarion is busy working on Doodle Hex 2, and they’ve tapped some top comic book talent to tackle the story this time around in the form of Mr. Sean McKeever.

Sean is an Eisner Award-winning writer who has worked in both the indie press as well as in the big leagues for titles such as Sentinel, Inhumans, Mystique, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Gravity and Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. He’s currently moved to the dark side, working exclusively for DC Comics on the Teen Titans. So while I am crushed that I let Doodle Hex slip through my fingers, I am relieved to know the sequel is in good hands.

Doodle Hex Gameplay Video

newVideoPlayer("doodlehex.flv", 463, 387,""); Tragnarion Studios sent us over this Doodle Hex video explaining some of the basic gameplay of Doodlehex, that DS game that’s been piquing our interest lately. In this first, of several, instructional videos they go over basic attacks, which are done by drawing magical symbols on the screen, and basic defence. It also shows off a quick battle. This looks kinda interesting, but I’m holding out to see how deep it gets.

Doodle Hex Characters and Secrets Galore

Tragnarion Studios has updated the website for their upcoming DS spellcasting battle game, Doodle Hex, the art style of which I have absolutely fallen in love with. The update adds three new characters to the mix: Brooklyn djinn Djin, Nigel Gizmo the technomancer, and Spanish tarot dancer Nadia, all pictured in the gallery below. Along with buddy icons and wallpapers, there are secrets to be discovered on the website as well. On the media page I drew a random rune in the sphere on the lower right and unlocked the game theme song, which is every bit as awesome as the art style. Check out DoodleHex.com to see what you can discover! Gallery after the jump.

Doodle Hex Casts A Spell On The DS

Every have a game’s art style just reach out and grab you? That’s what happened to me when I first saw these character images from Doodle Hex, a DS game coming in 2008 from Spanish developer Tragnarion Studios. A game of magical combat, players battle by drawing runes on their DS screen to cast spells like fireballs, reflect spells and polymorphs. Over 200 runes can be collected and swapped over wi-fi and used to compete in tournaments or puzzle mode. The promise of over 100 hours of gameplay is intriguing, but the real star here is the artwork. With quirky characters like Strat the emo rockstar elf and the goth witch Fey, the visual style of Doodle Hex has me surrendering with nary a screenshot fired. Hit up the Doodle Hex Website for more peeks at the stylish title, as well as goodies like wallpapers and icons, with the promise of more to come once the game hits Leipzig next week.
