Turok Developer Is Here To Listen

Turok‘s teammate killing sure pissed people off! Developer Propaganda Games originally thought that it might be humorous to include an Achievement for killing a teammate. But that didn’t sit well with Xbox 360 users. So much so that developer Propaganda Games had to issue a patch. Does Propaganda have second thoughts about the whole dealio? Turok Associate Director states: A lot of folks got uptight about it when the Achievement list was leaked. They were yelling on the forums about how we’re awarding anti-social behavior. Won’t somebody think of the children and all that nonsense so, you know, to our credit we listened to the fan-base, and we patched the Achievement to remove that team-killing portion, so everything’s well in the universe once again. Never let it be said that we won’t listen to the fan-base and if there’s something that they feel really strongly enough about, we’re always willing to go back and take a second look.

Turok Impressions

I both love and hate Turok at times, but mostly I’ve found it to be a pretty enjoyable game.

The single player is the part that most drags. While the gameplay can be fun, it’s the constant and increasingly suspension of belief that gets in the way of my truly enjoying the story. Why, for instance, are there dinosaurs on this planet? Why did I awake from suspended animation in a space ship wearing ammo belts and heavy gear, but no weapon. It’s these little things that sort of drive me nuts. But then I shiv someone and I forget, for a bit, that the enemy artificial intelligence is so very dim-witted.

Can Someone Tell Touchstone Turok Came Out Three Days Ago?

I’ve received quite a few emails this weekend from people saying they had picked up copies of Turok at their local stores. While it’s not out of the ordinary for a game’s street date to be broken by a single outlet, according to Best Buy, GameStop, GameCrazy and Wal-mart the game came out three days ago on Jan. 31. Apparently no one told this to the game’s publisher, Touchstone. The official Turok website has a countdown clock that still has a little over two days left on it. The press materials and game websites like IGN and Gamespot also have it listed as a February 5th release. Is this a matter of a mass mistake on the retailers’ part or is Touchstone being sneaky and letting the cat out of the bag early on purpose?

Livestreaming Turok Multiplayer

Watch live video from kotaku on Justin.tv

I’m going to try and find a match or two of Turok multiplayer to show you guys what it looks like to play online. Keep in mind that it’s the video quality that isn’t so hot, not the game’s graphics. I hope to do a lot of stabbing… but I’ll probably end up doing a lot of dying since most of the people playing are developers.

All done, thanks for watching.

Turok – Awakening The Giants Part Four

newVideoPlayer("turokawake4_gawker.flv", 463, 287,""); Part four of Touchstone’s five-part making of series Turok: Awakening The Giants is here, and finally they touch on the portion of the game I was most interested in – the voice actors. After a brief bit about level design, we get to see actors like Ron Perlman, Donnie Wahlberg, and Stargate’s Christopher Judge take a turn at lending their pipes to to game’s heroes and villains. I don’t think I will ever get used to seeing Judge without that golden Goa’uld forehead dealie. They seem to have managed to wrangle up every actor with a deep, rumbly voice ever, so expect your bass to get a real workout once Turok launches next week.

Rumour: Turok PC Delayed

Kotaku AU

We have it on good authority that the PC version of the new Turok FPS may be delayed until mid-2008.

Currently we don’t know the reasons for the potential delay, but it does explain why its release date was missing from the Funtastic schedule I received a few days ago.

We’ll let you know when there’s official word, but for now, eager gamers will have to turn to the PS3 or Xbox 360 next month to get their fill of the ever-so-manly Turok.

Turok Pre-order Gift is Fangtastic

Kotakuite matthewpaul93 sends in this pic of the toothy pre-order gift he got from his local Game Crazy for pre-ordering Turok. If I had to choose I would probably take the $US 10.gift card for pre-ordering the game from Circuit City but the large silver fang does have its charms. So, if you have a penchant for metallic orthodontia or need to fill in that gap in your smile, head over to Game Crazy and pre-order your copy of Turok now!

Turok Teammate Killing Feature Patched Out

Attempting to head off trouble at the pass, Turok developer Propaganda Games have announced that a patch will be disseminated that will change the controversial “Grab Bag” achievement. The achievement required payers to kill “at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself” in a single online match and was hotly protested when it was announced. The resulting patch would remove the requirement of killing a teammate, leaving you only needing to kill “at least 1 creature, 1 enemy and yourself.”

Many were understandably upset by the thought of having to kill a team member and while originally Propaganda expected to deploy the patch if it became an issue they seem to have had a change of heart and the fix will be available for download on the same day the game is released (Feb. 5). Although the PS3 version doesn’t have “achievements” as such, it does have a similar rewards system that will be fixed by the patch as well as adding support for rumble.

As far as I know, this is the first time an achievement has been changed due to public outcry. I think it shows an incredible progression in the maturity level of gamers as a whole that people would stand together against this kind of issue. It’s situations like this that will hopefully change the negative perception that the much of the general populace has about gamers. A little self-policing goes a long way.

Turok – Awakening The Giants Part III

newVideoPlayer("TurokSeg3_gawker.flv", 475, 287,""); Touchstone’s Turok making-of series Awakening the Giants continues this week with a look at creating the game’s antagonists. The team at Propaganda lay out how the artificial intelligence was developed for both the savage, bloodthirsty dinosaurs and the cunning, strategically thinking human enemies. After a bit of speculation last week I dug around a little bit to discover that it is indeed Electric Playground’s Victor Lucas – one of the nicest guys in the industry incidentally – narrating the series. Score one for my super-powered auditory senses! In case you missed them, be sure to catch Victor’s VO performance in part one and part two of the series.
