The main problem with sending fans of things anime, comic book, and video game related to a giant anime, comic book, and video game related convention, is the lack of infinite money at our fingertips.
From the biggest rivalries to the biggest… other rivalries, UDON leaves no facet of Street Fighter history untouched in SF20: The Art of Street Fighter, “the most complete collection of Street Fighter artwork ever.”
UDON is giving Capcom’s classic horror fighting franchise the royal treatment with Darkstalkers Tribute, a giant-sized art book celebrating the franchise’s history, and your artwork might just make the cut!
Udon Entertainment more than makes up for Kristin Kreuk’s lack of thigh meat with their newly announced comic book miniseries Street Fighter Legends: Chun-Li.
Kicking off in January, SFL: Chun-Li will explore our favourite female fighter’s earliest assignments with the Hong King police department, where she is partnered with a young woman named Po-Lin who has her own reasons for hating Shadaloo. The series will also offer some insight into the life of Chun-Li’s father, Dorai, as well as Dan’s dad, Go Hibiki. The press release also suggests that some Shadaloo bosses might make an appearance, and judging by the preview page filled with images of M. Bison, they could be right.
Hit the jump for more details, and hit the gallery that shows the horrible, horrible things Chun-Li’s mighty, meaty thighs do to a police uniform.
Those of you who missed Udon’s excellent Street Fighter series in comic book form have another chance to catch the series next February as Eagle One Media and Capcom team up to present a DVD version of the comic in animated form. Street Fighter: Round One – FIGHT!, due out February 9th, just in time for the release of Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li on February 27 – not only reprints issues 0-6 of the Udon series, it animates the comic, adding movement, music, special-effects, and even voice overs to the comic book dialogue If you ask me it’s a complete and utter bastardization of the comic book as an art form, but that’s just the sort of thing you’d expect from a big old comic book geek like myself. In July 2007, fresh from beating the game, I ordered the Japanese-language edition of the Okami art book. Weeks went by. Then months. No art book. I totally forgot about the thing. Then today, June 24, 2008…success! The book finally turns up (albeit the English-language edition). Was it worth the wait? Was it ever. This is a proper art book. Full of concept art, level design sketches, character reference models and even some mangas detailing both the game’s boss battles and “god release” cutscenes. Best part? It even gives you soundtrack advice: ie, if you’re reading this, play track 7 on disc 3 of the soundtrack.
With the original Street Fighter now twenty years long in the tooth and Capcom planning to issue Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Udon Entertainment is capitalising on the licence in a big way in 2008. It’s planning on issuing no less than three new Street Fighter comic book lines next year, including Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Legends: Chun-Li and Street Fighter III: New Generation. Details on the involved artists, plus teaser artwork shots have been added to the publisher’s official blog.
In addition to all that Street Fighter stuff, new comics based on the Onimusha and Devil Kings games are planned. Beyond even that, a pair of Capcom art books from Udon—Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: Official Complete Works and the Darkstalkers Graphic File—will eat away at your savings next year. One Darkstalkers art book, please!
