The Writers Guild of America is a slight misnomer. In fact, there are two separate unions, WGA West and WGA East. But they work in tandem, and once a year they come together to celebrate the past year’s achievements in writing. The 2011 awards were presented on Sunday, February 19, in a simultaneous, shared event that took place in both New York and Los Angeles.
When Sony unveiled its PlayStation Vita handheld at last year’s E3, Uncharted: Golden Abyss was one of the first things they showed. This sent a clear message: “Our new handheld is a portable current-gen console. To prove it, we’re going to show it running one of our most technically demanding current-gen games.” After all, the Uncharted franchise is synonymous with everything that Sony wants people to think of when they think of the PlayStation brand — polished, fun, classy, high production values and amazing graphics.
Nathan Drake has recently purchased a new MacBook, after talking to several of his friends about it for several weeks. He has done more discussing the MacBook than he has actually using it, and secretly he enjoys causing the icons to sort of ‘pop’ along the bar at the bottom of the screen more than he enjoys operating the various applications that have come with his new Apple experience.
When you look at how cinematic Nathan Drake’s exploits are, it’s a bit weird to think that the same company that’s turned out the realistic Uncharted mega-franchise also made the cartoony Jak & Daxter series. But Naughty Dog has in fact done both, and was considering a return to the buddy adventure franchise before they started in on the upcoming The Last of Us.
Sony launched a website honouring the best in-store Uncharted 3 displays across the country. The number one entry, a Futaba Tosho branch, featured a life-sized Sully breaking through the ceiling and holding a life-sized Nathan Drake.
I recently opined that one of the things I didn’t like about Uncharted 3 was that it lacked a delightful love-triangle like the one in Uncharted 2. Turns out maybe there was one, and most of us just missed it.
I was disappointed with Uncharted 3 for a number of reasons. Certainly one of those reasons was that the game had bizarre difficulty spikes and could be kind of a dick sometimes. But another, possibly bigger reason was that while Uncharted 3 generally mirrored the pacing and story-arc of Uncharted 2, it lacked one of my favourite things about its predecessor: chemistry. Specifically, the romantic chemistry born of the love-triangle between Nathan Drake, Chloe and Elena. More love-triangles in games, please!
Remember last year how Harrison Ford helped Sony market Uncharted 3 in Japan? Well, those clips have been remixed into something way better.
With the PS Vita now out in Japan, the Examiner got its hands on a list of PS Vita game and app download sizes from the country’s PSN Store. The sizes range from the extremely tiny — 14MB for Nico Nico — to the fairly hefty — 3.1GB for fighter BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend.
