EA’s Grasshopper Manufacture Game Is Totally Using UE3
7:00PM Kotaku US Edition | So what games currently in development aren’t using UE3? I’m having problems naming them. The recently announced EA/Grasshopper Manufacture multi-platform horror game, which is being produced by Shinji Mikami and directed by Suda51, will now be using UE3, too. Does that mean the game will have an overabundance of bald space marines? Only time will tell I suppose. I’m still interested to know if Masafumi Takada will be doing the soundtrack or not. Epic Has ‘Defrauded Us, And Major Portion of Industry’
10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Once again proving that legal metabolism is slow, the Silicon Knights vs. Epic court battle slogs on. It’s been a year since developer Silicon Knights filed suit against Epic, claiming that Epic had “failed to provide a working game engine”. Silicon Knights went on to ditch the Unreal Engine 3 that it had licenced from Epic and finished Too Human with its own engine. Says Dyack: Well the trial is proceeding, we feel really good about our claims, and we’re hopeful that justice will be done. We all feel really strongly that they have defrauded us, and a major portion of the industry. The Unreal Engine is still the industry’s most popular third party engine. Capcom Licence Unreal Engine For Second Western-Developed Project
5:30PM Luke Plunkett | Capcom are all aboard that Unreal train. Having licensed the Unreal Engine 3.0 in February for use on a title being developed in North America (Dead Rising 2?), they’ve today licensed the engine for use in a second project, this one being worked on in Europe. No idea what that one could be (maybe a new IP!), but that’s not the point! The point is a lot of Japanese developers talk about trying harder in the Western market. 5:00AM Brian Crecente | T-Entertainment, creators of Korean massively multiplayer online role-playing games Laghaim and Last Chaos, licenced the Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming MMO codenamed L2, the company announced today. “We have a team of seasoned professionals devoted to L2 project, and we are confident that by integrating our expertise and Unreal Engine 3’s excellent performance, L2 will be a top-tier MMORPG that fascinates gamers all around the world,” said John Hong, CTO of T-Entertainment. “T-Entertainment is a well-diversified entertainment company that is poised to launch yet another successful MMORPG worldwide,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic Games. “We are constantly improving the Unreal Engine, and look forward to providing them with cutting-edge game development tools and technology for many months to come”. The company describes their upcoming PC game as a “futuristic fantasy with a taste of space opera” and say they’re shooting for a worldwide release in 2010. More »
