Last week, we streamed a recording of the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing the theme from Modern Warfare 2. This track was from the orchestra’s upcoming album named “The Greatest Video Game Music”. Today, the album was released, and the nice folks at the London Philharmonic have allowed Kotaku to exclusively stream the entire album for a week.
This is pretty cool. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is preparing to launch an album of video game music–the tracklist is a good combination of classic tunes (Zelda) and unexpected hits (Angry Birds).
There have been so many Mega Man soundtrack reinterpretations over the years; the classic games and their sequels feature bouncy, soaring melodies that lend themselves wonderfully to performance. But still, this one stands out: it’s an acoustic reinterpretation of “Splash Blue” from Mega Man 9, performed as a duet between nylon-string acoustic guitar and flute.
