The fate of the Warhammer 40,000 MMO has been revealed: It’s no longer a Warhammer 40,000 MMO. THQ has announced Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium has been “refocused” as a single-player action game with multiplayer elements, a change that brings with it substantial layoffs at developers Vigil Games and Relic Entertainment.
When I think Warhammer 40,000 I’m thinking deep strategic battles and hours spent hovering over a table covered with painstakingly painted metal figures; epic wars fought on a grand scale. I definitely don’t think fast-paced cooperative arcade shooter. Someone evidently did, however, and that’s why there’s Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, coming next month to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network from THQ.
Fans familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 universe are incredibly excited about THQ and Relic Entertainment’s Space Marine for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. Players not familiar with the universe have no idea what’s going on. This video fixes that.
THQ today detailed their release plans for a half-dozen games, including Red Faction Armageddon which is now planned for a May 2011 release day.
Real-time strategy fans who pre-order Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II’s Chaos Rising expansion online will score a free copy of Saints Row 2, which I’m sure makes sense to someone, somewhere.
